Once you have gotten a hang on user and account control versus your file shares, we move up a button. Activity monitoring. Anyone comfortable with Linux or Unix and servers will recognize the following screenshots. Basically the Activity monitor will allow you to peek inside your NAS to see what is going on. How much load your CPU is using, how active the network is or even a list of processes running and the CPU utilization along with it (yeah that would be TOP).
