A 200 Hz gaming VA panel going for 1000 nits with G-Sync
We have one of the most long-awaited monitors in our hands today, yes, we will take a look at some Ultra Wide slash HDR gaming as we have the ASUS RoG Swift PG35VQ in da house. At 3440 x 1440 pixels, this monitor can push 200 Hz combined with 'G-sync Ultimate' (it has the physical G-SYNC board). The latest iteration eliminates stutter and tearing whilst gaming in HDR. And that HDR level is nothing to be shy of, rated at 1000 nits. Another huge feature is, of course, the fact that this panel has full-array local dimming zones.
So yes, I have mentioned it before. We all want perfect blacks and contrast, OLED remains a challenge for monitors with burn-in issues but also lack the brightness levels that proper HDR needs. OLED typically sticks at 700 nits max, whereas monitors based on LCD can pass 1000 nits and some TVs from Samsung even close in at 1500 nits. Why is that important? Well, for HDR peak levels you need that intense lighting. Overall we feel that 600 nits and above is good, 1000 nits and above is fantastic (I am talking peak levels here).
To carry the G-SYNC Ultimate label, a monitor needs a required peak level of 1000 nits, however, prices are easily double for that amount of nits which is something we need to discuss later, money. This 35-inch ASUS gaming monitor can drive the AU Optronic panel at 200Hz (overclocked) combined with G-Sync Ultimate whilst gaming in an HDR10 or compatible mode. The monitor has a 512 local dimming zone lighting system that will offer a peak brightness of 1000 nits. A monitor offering image quality, connectivity and features, lots of features that appeal to any PC gamer.
The ASUS RoG Swift PG35VQ is a monitor that is fast, VA based and offers good response times, rated at 4ms. It is offered as a superior display that should leave the rest of the market far behind. The combination of HDR, resolution, refresh rate and G-Sync Ultimate make this a gaming monitor with little competition. Asus fabbed the ASUS RoG Swift PG35VQ in a sexy gaming design that has Aura SYNC enabled RGB lighting and, again, projected logos. It is a staggering monitor, however, also at a staggering price of € 2.719,- (you just choked for a moment didn't you?). We'll talk about it all on the following pages of course.
