When we place the motherboard at an angle we see that all-new socket LGA2066. It will support both Kaby Lake-X and Skylake-X processors, these are referred to as the Core X series processors. The cooler mounting system is the same as on X99, meaning you can re-use your cooler and are not forced to purchase a new socket mounting system or complete cooling kit.
Storage ports then -- ASUS has fitted the board with 6x SATA3 ports. One U.2 connector, and then a total of three M.2 SSDs could be mounted.
Here we see that a bit better. SATA3 6Gbps ports, under the heatsink an M.2 slot that has been tucked away. The advantage here is that the heatsink also cools the M.2 unit, preventing it from throttling down when stressed. Multi M.2 setup supports RAID modes.
Basically, you unscrew the heatsink and you'll stumble onto an M.2 slot. Insert, secure and you are ready to use. I prefer this solution over the DIMM.2 one.
