Performance - Ethernet (LAN 1 - 10 Gigbit)
LAN Performance 1 to 10 Gbps
Next, to WIFI performance, the new trend is faster Ethernet. In the coming years, we'll slowly transition from 1 Gigabit towards 10 Gigabit connections, with 2.5 and 5 Gbps available as well. We have invested in a 10 Gigabit infrastructure to test from. We start with the 1 Gigabit connector.
1 Gigabit (Intel jack)
10 Gigabit (Aquantia embedded LAN)
As you can see, the 10 GigE connection is a little flaky, overall we still averaged out a nice 8.3 Gigabit. However we think it is instrument error as once we measured with a dedicated 1 Gbps Ethernet card, we noticed the same behavior (a bit better though).
We verified the results with a dedicated 10 GigE NIC. We need to recheck cabling as likely that was the culprit. For wired 10 GigE Cat 6e is recommended.
