The M.2 2230 SSD is purpose-built to fit the highly compact form factor, measuring 22 mm in width and a mere 30 mm in length. It stands in contrast to the larger M.2 2280 drive, showcasing remarkable size reduction.
To ensure seamless connectivity to the system, the SSD employs the PCI-Express 4.0 x4 interface. This interface doubles the theoretical bandwidth in comparison to the PCIe 3.0 x4, delivering enhanced performance.
Upon inspecting the PCB, you will notice the presence of the SSD controller and a single flash chip. Unfortunately, this drive does not include a DRAM cache.
The SSD controller utilized is the Phison PS5021-E21, which represents Phison's latest model specifically designed for PCI-Express 4.0. It presents a cost-effective solution with four flash channels, supporting TLC and QLC NAND technologies. Furthermore, the controller is engineered for efficient DRAM-less operation and adheres to the NVMe 1.4 protocol. Manufactured using the 12-nanometer process at TSMC Taiwan, this controller guarantees optimal performance.
For the flash chip, the Micron 176-layer 3D QLC NAND is employed in this SSD, boasting an impressive capacity of 2 TB.
