Contest winners

A Decade Guru3D.com

Contest 1 from a Decade Guru3D.com finished just over a week ago. In total we received roughly 250 Guru3D themed photos. And boy, did we have a hard time sifting through them and actually picking winners.

From the 135 photos you guys have been able to see here, we made a cut to 15 photos we figured could end up as finalists. The 15 photos have been submitted through a panel of judges.

The Majestic 12 judges:

  • Thorsten - Guru3D
  • Ian - Guru3D
  • John - Guru3D
  • George - Guru3D
  • Veronica - Guru3D
  • Joshua - Guru3D
  • Joost - OCZ Technology
  • Stephane - Auzentech
  • Graham - BFG Tech
  • Ben - NVIDIA
  • Gareth - Corsair
  • Hilbert Hagedoorn - Guru3D

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with pride that I'd like to announce the top 15 of submitted photos, with the top 5 prize winners. Here we go:

Florian-Hirt2-200.jpgNumber 1 - Florian Hirt
From the second that the first entries from the judges came back, it was already clear that Florian was going to win. An excellent composition, and the time was just right. With a total of 146 points Florian is the winner of this contest!

"This is my first entry for the photo competition. I think it was one of the hardest photos I've ever taken. Because I had this dragonfly on some finger of my right hand, had to glue the sign to my finger with spit, then dial in all the settings on my heavy DSLR (I even focused manually) and that all with my left hand. For Christ sake I'm a right-hander ;) . And when did they ever produce a DSLR which you would be able to use with both hands anyway". - Florian

First prize package:

  • GeForce GTX 285 personally signed by Jen-Sun Huang, the man himself, the CEO of NVIDIA!
  • Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 sound card
  • OCZ Blade 2000MHz 7-8-7 Triple Channel 6GB
  • OCZ Vendetta 2 including Core i7 brackets
  • OCZ Illuminati Keyboard
  • OCZ Behemoth Mouse
  • OCZ Behemoth Mousepad
  • BFG EX1200 Power Supply

Florian congratulations man, well deserved!

Scott-Faulkner-100.jpgNumber 3 - Scott Faulkner
When this photo arrived we pretty much burst into laughter, Scott is probably one of these slightly weird yet incredibly fun guys that enjoys life to the max.

The photo he submitted explains it all and hardly needs any justification or explanation. Just a simple fun photo good for a laugh.

"Photos were taken at Parkes Radio Telescope named "The Dish" in Australia. It was used as the prime receiving station for the reception of telemetry and TV from the surface of the Moon for the Apollo 11 mission." -  Scott

Third prize package:

  • Corsair TX650W PSU
  • HIS Radeon HS 4870 IceQ 4+ TURBO
  • Zalman NC1500 notebook cooler
  • Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 sound card

We congratulate Scott as he came in 3rd with 114 points.

Christopher-Hayden-200.jpgNumber 4 - Christopher Hayden
Weird, nasty... but you just have to look a little deeper into the scene that Chris made here. This of course is emulating a first person shooter combined with Guru3D hardware and well... a morbid element.  With a grand total of 113 points he nearly made it into the top 3, but luckily we have an awesome prize for the number 4 spot as well.

Fourth prize:

  • ECS N9600GT-512MX-F
  • Corsair TX650W PSU

Christopher, thank you very much and we congratulate you with 4th place!

MOLNAR-DANIEL-CALIN-200.jpgNumber 5 - Molnar Daniel Calin
The final prize winner with 112 points is Daniel Molnar.

Though Daniel did not submit a story on how this photo was made he definitely was able to capture a nice little scene, apparently bugs are a common denominator for Guru3D readers. A truly lovely photo is what the end result is.

Take a good look at the photo, and Daniel we congratulate you with the fantastic entry into the contest.

Fifth prize (runner up):

  • HIS Radeon HD 4670 iSilence 4 1GB

Number 6 - Matt Simpson
To get a naked girl on front of the camera is a challenging task, to have that photo published on the web, would for her be ever more challenging to consider. Personally I had rated this photo in the top 3, but as it turns out Matt just fell outside the prizes with 107 points.

A nearly perfect photo that turned out not to be weird, nope... this is a proper photo done right, revealing nothing that should not be revealed. This is an artistic done right photo. It is beautiful. We thank Matt and the mystery lady Kirsten for their submission.

"The second photo I submitted is much nicer, and a photo of a friend of mine (Kirsten) who I have photographed and submitted photos already into the ?I am proud of this photo I have taken? thread. It took a bit of persuasion to get her to pose naked, but when she saw the picture she really liked it. In fact she even wanted a copy herself"- Matt

At number 8 we have one of these photos that is just so original, underwater diving with a Guru3D.com logo, that's just classic.

Laszlo-Gabor-Liszi-200.jpgNumber 9 - Laszlo Gabor Liszi
We travel all the way to Japan where Laszlo managed to take a photo that we found appealing, that's culture from the other side of the ocean, of course with Guru3D tagged on it. Very nice, a well deserved ninth place.

Raina-Aurore-Plantier-200.jpg

Number 10 - Raina Aurore Plantier
Personally this was one of my favorites, Raina submitted two photos, but at tenth place the judges agreed this was a properly done, nice and just warm photo with the flowers forming Guru3D. Lovely really.

We thank you Raina for the beautiful photo.

DULCE-200.jpgNumber 11 Dulce Lopez
All the way from Venezuela we received this photo. It fell just outside the top 10, but coming from a selection of nearly 250 photos that means a lot of us liked it.

A little dark, macabre... but that is just a beautiful and original photo. Thank you very much Dulce Lopez!

Karim-Bissar-200.jpgNumber 12 - Karim Bissar

Christian-Coombes-200.jpgNumber 13 - Christian Coombes
Over in the USA at Myrtle Beach this photo was taken. A lovely composition, with the timing just right. Unfortunately Chris didn't make it into the prizes, but 13th place out of 250... is extremely respectable. A lovely photo Chris, thank you very much.

Maria-Margarita-Magana-Bernal-200.jpgNumber 14 - Maria Margarita Magaña Bernal
This could have easily been one of the more technical right photos, a proper scene, proper composition and the guy holding the guru3d banner has an improper expression. These facts combined make this a very interesting photo that made it into the top 15 at number 14. Thank you very much for this entry Maria, as we liked it very much!

Ben-Segar-200.jpgNumber 15 - Ben Segar
At number fifteen we end with Ben Segar. We just think it's a hilarious photo, a guy that dresses up in a batman costume with the biggest smile ever on his face... this is just fun and exactly what this contest was all about.

Thank you very much Ben, for dressing up like that, and rest assured that everybody who has seen this photo must have loved it.

A lot of people have entered Contest 1 the 'A decade of Guru3D' photo contest.

Some of you went for a fairly normal photo, others where really creative, and again others made some really hard effort out of their projects.
