I think someone forgot it's 2020.
I try to forget. Everything has to have a catch screaming out loud name. Even YouTube videos are like that. With the most clickbait thumbnail too. Its annoying.

Never seen any that guy's videos before, but, wow...what an immediately distrustful individual... "These settings are not possible on a PC" ORLY? Well, you little dweeb, it was developed on a PC, so that kinda smacks you in the face, pushes you back onto a spike and skewers your torso in agonising pain and suffering, doesn't it. Also, and, this is a personal thing that I think only applies to me and no one else on the planet, but I cannot stand people who use the word 'super' as a superlative adjective. It actually makes me physically sick/nauseous. I really do not know why videos like this are made, because it is no more than someone reading the PR statements from Microsoft with a heavy bias to generate a narrative. Like, talking about the fan and the exhaust air, and that even if something is placed on top to block it, hot air will still be removed from the system, even though it is not ideal. The only people who would ever think to mention that are people who did extensive research and found that some people remarked that it was a dumb design because of air flow, so, they had to add that to this individuals media training prior to making the video. I understand and appreciate that people like this are making videos and have a following, but, he clearly is just shilling and I would never ever trust a word that came out of his mouth. At least Linus (who I do not like) bookends his videos with disclaimers. This guy is just a mouthpiece.
He does it for the views. Dude is a ******* putz. 10 years ago he was rather legit, the last 4 years he has become quite the dweeb as you put.

If phone companies can charge an arm and a leg on their highest tier phones year after year, what's stopping Microsoft, Sony from doing the same? Game consoles already do more than just playing games; they are pretty much mini entertainment computers in disguise, just with proprietary OS and far better optimization. Back on topic, i predict that their highest specced console wouldn't be really cheap, given what's included within. $899+ish seems like a good estimate.

It was what you said that you apparently forgot its 2020, not anything about xbox. I agree the name is stupid, but to claim something is retarded as an insult, not cool.

You think this will ALL cost £500!??? If this cost £500 it would KILL/DESTROY the PC gaming market, prices on current gen cards would crash into the ground, CPU prices would crumble and game development would probably halt rather quickly. I don't care if you have MS's billions in the bank and you are buying these parts in bulk, there is no way this will cost £500. If it does I would be EXTREMELY surprised. I maybe wearing a tinfoil hat right now but I strongly think these machines will be around the £999 mark to buy out right. .
I would highly doubt that price, even £799 would be pushing it. Chances are that yes this will be sold at a loss for MS, they understand this, just like the ps3 original was sold at a massive loss at the time. Is it smart? who is to say but they got the money to flex around. It might be they are hoping to have a massive footprint in gaming like sony did this time around. But if this comes out at £999 like you mentioned it will fail, too few people will be willing to put that money towards it. There is a reason that the xbox one s and ps4 slim out sell the xboxonex and ps4 pro, money matters too much to console gamers. The only way i can see them releasing it for that much is if the series s comes out at the same time, which will hit the 300-500 mark that consoles are normally expected, and even then I think this could be too high specially round the 500 mark. That said i think the xboxonex (please ms change your names) will drop down to the 200-300 mark at this point and become the new base model. its been sadly shown time and time again around the 300 mark is the gold point, it most likely a big reason the ps4 crushed xbox early on due to people not wanting to drop down an extra 100. But you keep your tin foil hat my dear sir, it will be interesting to see what this gets released at. I already worry about how much this special storage will cost, cause chances are it will be far more expensive than third party

Console specs that out perform the average gaming PC for a low price isn't a new concept, and it doesn't make gaming PC's obsolete or irrelevant. For that to happen, it would need to do everything a PC can do. And unless Microsoft is so generous to let you install a real operating system on their new console, it will never be able to compare. It will simply do everything every other console has done, only faster.

Considering the console will be sold at a loss, theres no way they'll allow it to be used as a low cost pc, they want you to buy first party titles to offset the production costs.

@Astyanax Which is why the many news articles around the web (and people here) saying this console makes PC gaming obsolete is foolhardy. It's competition is Sony. It's sole reason to exist is Sony.

This will definitely not be sold at anymore than $600, I will bet that. Main reason being Microsoft will not do anything to mess with the PC market that's buying at $1000. Everyone needs to remember, this is bought at bulk, with very specific design, to be recreated over and over, to the point where Microsoft may lose a little per console sold(as they've always sold), but will make up for it in subscription and accessories. Even though a number of products that are sold to be compatible with the Xbox, items that are sold to be Microsoft Xbox certified they still make money off of.

Can we get a poll on the price please? Something like 300,350,400,450,500,550,600,650 would be a good poll range by the esteemed members of the Guru3D Allumi

If you could use it as a PC, for both gaming and work, I'd get one right away

Loophole35:

Bet you it's $699 at minimum. And that would still be M$ taking a loss. I also bet the 1TB expansion card is like $299.
Where are we taking these bets? because I'm in for a gentleman's wager of a 1$ of local currency. I'm betting you that the new xbox will be 599$ or less.

I don't think the ps5 is going to have a cheaper version like the series s, and the ps5 uses the same chip as the xsx. That's important... Sony is still skittish from the horrible sales of the ps3 $599 launch price. Console players don't understand inflation. Or don't care. Microsoft learned their own pricing lesson with the original launch of the xb1, being $100 more expensive killed them. The xsx will be priced according to the ps5. This console might be cheaper than you think.

Been reading about the new machine today and wow what a beast. I don't think the PC will be catching up any time soon in refinement but obvs plenty of scope for heavy lifting. Seems also that M$ is using a variant of AMD's Store MI but with more capability curtesy of the Box using an SSD. Fantastic machine and to be fair its brilliant.

This is a PC basically. It's using Zen 2, and RDNA 2 with RT, these are actually killer specs for a console.

It is but isn't. these consoles use type 1 hypervisors and then game/dashboard run on top of that, theres always going to be a slight penalty from not being directly on metal.

Current consoles are basically PC's. What will sell these consoles is not specs. Exclusive games will. I think Microsoft still underplays that fact. Sony gets it, they are putting a lot of effort into getting unique games, currently working with Konami to revive Silent Hills. Luckily, both Sony and Microsoft don't view the PC as competition, because it's not. Microsoft has already started putting all games they make also on PC, and Sony has started doing the same (although delayed). If Sony continues that mindset, you could view the PC as a way to save money even, effectively owning both consoles in one.

Decent VMM's will not give any real penalty enough to affect performance, take unraid that's a full hypervisor with only about a difference of 1% of performance. There are also very decent Linux options with the same performance difference. The PS4 and Xbox One's problem were being Piledriver based that really held them back with everything, and very low clocked Piledriver based machines when that core really didn't see any decent scaling under 4ghz.
