Urgh, after reading that, it has completely put me off buying Windows 8 and I was never very interested in it in the first place. I'll stick with Windows 7 for as long as I possibly can. Windows 8 doesn't offer me anything more beyond what I can do already on my PC anyway, which is used solely for gaming and browsing, and that Metro interface annoys the hell out of me. It looks bland and ugly and clunky to use in my opinion. I have a desktop not a touchscreen tablet or smartphone.

I can't help feeling that Windows 8 is mainly an app store with an OS attached to it, and that I will never support.
Other than that it might even be acceptable on a desktop meanwhile, since there are enough 3rd party solutions out there by now that block Metro out. Some even boot right past it to the desktop, so you never have to see it at all.
For tablets Windows RT could be a good choice....if you didn't have to use the desktop for quite a few things. And the desktop is just not very touch friendly.
Summary ? Incomplete separation of Metro and Desktop as alternative options: fail. Appstore: fail. ALL shortcuts of an installed program cluttering the Metro screen without being able to remove the unneeded ones: fail.
I think, no, I *hope* Windows 8 goes down in history as Vista 2.

Unfortunately i had to revert to windows 7 because of d3doverrider and inject plugins didnt work half of the time for me.
i dont find metro clunky at all tbh, being html5 programming gives potential over the traditional start menu imo. (live updating etc) wish the stacking would be more configurable though (which shape etc) .

And people hate on Apple for deciding for the consumer :P Can't wait to see how things turn out for MS even though I have no intention to get 8.

I knew it from the beginning. That's what happens when a company DOESN'T listen to their customers.
Windows 9 will come after shortly, with a great START MENU back, and THAT will be an OS to look at. Metro is pure crap for desktop users, and EVERYBODY knows it.

I kinda like it., at first I was against it, but now when I tried it for few weeks its very refreshing.
Metro look is not that bad and you can switch between metro start menu & desktop in a second just by pressing windows key.
Metro apps look sleek (travel, maps), Metro configuration interface is nice once you get use to it. Actually its so good, it made me feel kinda bad when i went back to windows7. Same feeling when i went from Windows 7 to windowsXP, windowsXP felt so dated and generic xD
The only thing I dont like is new search option, Windows7 start menu search found everything (indexing off)., but this search finds some random stuff and rarely finds what im looking for. 😛c1:

Well they already have "Blue" or what it was named and some other OS on top of that in development (Or how it was.) slated for release in Spring 2013 or some such, I don't remember the details that well.
Then again maybe that's just SP2 for Windows 7 or the Server version of Windows 8 - I don't dislike W8 that much from what little I tested of it but I don't really need anything from it either other than maybe DX11.1 support but we'll probably not see that in use for a while. 😀

I think they got those numbers because people just like w7 and w8 was not coming from vista.so less users might be running away from the os as much as they did for vista

I had tried the release preview and I hated it. To me it was an unintentional advertisement for getting a MacBook Air as my next work laptop :P Just because it is new doesn't automatically mean it is good. 8 is great for Gates' vision of the tablet; the ****ty transformer with a stylus which never took off. I hope a few heads will roll at MS and they get a few decent designers!

looks like i'll be on vista 64 awhile longer 🙂

Yeah, Vista was fine. Drivers were what held it back in 2006.
