You wouldn't know... MSSE won't detect it anyway...
I have MBAM for passive scans.

Antiviruses are for dumb users, there are better way of protection. Avast,AVG,Avira, etc. are **** antiviruses if u get a bad virus it will evenetually kill these antiviruses...
Reported for mocking users who use an antivirus program. Antivirus software is for users with sense and as a safety tool plus for users who want their stuff protected.
No reason not to have an av going, especially with today's insane hardware. I tried running just ms av once and got my google account hacked. My guess is was through a website attack which can happen even through legit sites, like this one, by something like a shoddy ad or video provider. If you are worried about gaming/app performance you can just add the apps and games to the exception list and they will perform as well as if no av is installed. For the record, I use avg internet security and have noticed zero difference with it installed or not, performance and stability wise
Yeah some AV programs free and paid offer a gaming mode for those who want no interference from the AV during gaming.

MBAM has around 60% detection rate... that's A LOT worse than Microsoft's 90.2% detection rate, and obviously a lot worse than Avira's 99.9% detection rate. How old are you? (Just out of curiosity).

I'm not mocking anyone, just saying if u can't use ur brain before clicking on random links sent on facebook etc.
I guess that you have no real social interactions whatsoever. Have you ever heard of pen drives? Some people's pen drives are full of malware. People who interact with other people in real life can actually need to pass information through pen drives and other media.
Where did you read that Avira has 99.9% of detection rate?
Go to my first post.
I have seen avira fail on deleting real threat and deleting important files.
Mee too. Detection rates and removal success rates are two totally different things.
If you get virus there is an answer on that. Run windows in safe mode with next 3program. Malwarebytes,HitmanPro,Kaspersky VirusRemoval Tool. There is no chance that this 3program can't detect that new virus. If you pick up some bull**** thru toolbar you have to clean it manually but still it's easier than running useless ****.
Good luck with that. It's been a long time since I've posted here in Guru3D. I see that a lot of things have changed. Others not so much. I guess that it's now full of "security experts". Sigh...

I feel sorry for thoose users... If you use legit games, and download/pirate movie/music. I guarantee you that you won't get any viruses except you go and try out cheat programs... etc.
I see you left out porn. I'm sure I could modify my browsing habits to be perfectly safe and secure without an AV, but sorry, I want full freedom to visit any shady sites I please without having to worry about what to click or not click. AV = more freedom. No AV = self-imposed restrictions. Also sick of this show-off bunch who seem to elevate themselves as being more knowledgeable than others by saying, 'hey, I dont use AV, cool, huh?'. We know that it can be done, in the same manner that I can jump on one leg to where I want to go instead of walking comfortably. :wanker:

People are forgetting that genuine sites can be hijacked and compromised too, so when you click on your favourite site/forum, with your 0 protection, because you are 'savvy' enough to not need one, and have no idea that you are now part of a botnet / infected with a keylogger / rootkit - and start wondering why you just lost your WOW account, or banking info was stolen / locked out of your email account.... Yep, only the super clever use the net without an AV
That's happened to people with AV dewd, believe. Anything you put online can be hacked, hell, even Sony gets hacked - AV won't change that.

I have downloaded several cheat programs and never gotten a Virus from it.

Hey admin, you can close this thread now because this is going nowhere, way off topic. Like 100 times before this thread becomes just one more battlefield in war between AV and non-AV users. We had enough threads like this in the past. Kill it and close the day....

Meh, Kaspersky...job done.

This guy said it all ^^ BTW Its' pretty funny how everyone is using abbreviation for their current favorite anti-virus. Therefore assuming not only that most of us have heard of their garbage AV, but also that it's always on our mind :flip: PS Big shout out to Malwarebytes

Even with an AV as a safety tool I have been Virus free for over 4.5 years. With cyberfox (64bit variant of Firefox) I use noscript and adblock plus.

I disagree. NIS was definitely heavier than Avast the last time I used it, which was last year. But maybe it's different if you're not using a SSD as a boot drive.
Last version of Norton I used was Internet Security 2013. Memory usage is lower for Avast but Norton used less CPU time (which is what actually matters when you have one of the world's slowest desktop quad core processors....) The system in my specs is excellent for testing performance impact. Even Malwarebyte's Antimalware has a negative affect on the performance of this thing.....lol
Common sense > Any AV software ever produced. AV companies want you to believe that the internet is such a dangerous place but it really isn't. They are just trying to justify the existence of their snake oil grade software. Malware has ceased being an issue when M$ got their **** together and released windows 7.
Malware has not "ceased being an issue"....lol. Malware infections rates are worse now than they were pre-Win7.

Last viruses I got came from a customer's harddrive and an ad on a legitimate website.....

Had 3 computers at work running botnets with McAfee Enterprise installed....
Antiviruses doesn't help from quality malicious software or attacks. I don't say that i'm safe, but using antivirus, doesn't make me safer, just slows down my pc.
Your PC is considerably faster than mine and Panda Cloud is completely unnoticeable on mine.....

Malwarebytes has a around 60% detection rate. Good job.

I am glad that I switched off of Avast because of this problem and the issues that I was having with it deleting .exe files.

November updates installed and running fine with avast 2015 here.

Indeed, AV benchmarks are cool. Too bad they have little to do with the reality. The thing is that the current realtime AV approaches are inefficient and generally not worth it. Anybody who has run into issues with malware for the past few years made a mistake somewhere. Be it outdated OS/software, USB drives from some unknown sources(read - friends, family) or malicious websites. Such safety measures are no less paranoid than "infecting" yourself with AV scanners and being obsessed with detection rates and whatnot.
...said a 15 year old. No mature grown up with computer literacy would think that realtime AV and comparatives like the ones made by av-comparatives are worthless. I've disinfected tons of pen drives thanks to them.
