You have to admit, without a touch screen it's counter intuitive not having a start button.

I originally thought that 8.1 might be worth it, but I'm starting to think otherwise. Just give us what we want MS. Then you'll get what you want (our money).

I hope this doesn't *break* Start8 and the others....

..why would it matter? They wouldn't exactly be needed at that point ya know...

.... because if you read a single paragraph you would have seen that the start button simply opens 'metro'. @year; i got you beat, 1/22/2011 for myself 🤓

Because to be honest it doesn't bug me, I've been using Windows 8 for months without a start button. I got used to it. GASP!

Don't see the point in everyone going form Win 7 to Win 8, only to get that Start 8 and what not, just so they can turn it back into 7, should have just stuck with 7 in the first place.

How special, another 'I don't use the startmenu so everyone else shouldn't either, rather I want to suck the teet of a multinational corporation and needlessly defend them for whatever reason'. As fine as that logic is, it's still a good question to ask if software like Start8 will still work since 8.1 does not do what it does (and if it does not, then I'm sure stardock will update it). I think Windows 8 and now the Xbone makes it pretty evident MS is very out of touch with the populace.

Yup. M$ are a large powerful company, with fingers in many pies for sure - and this is kinda the problem; how can a company so large and so powerful and so rich make so many mistakes?

Personally having that start button or not won't affect me since I'm already used to the Start Screen and have been using Windows 8 as intended lol. deltatux
Wuh eh wah?! start menu!? Oh u mean press windows key, type stuff, let windows find the process and then press enter for it to launch 🤓 Nah I won't care either. Only thing I've done is pinned really frequently used stuff to the Metro menu (stuff I used to have on my objectdock on W7).

I said I got used to it, I didn't say you should too. As far as Win 8 goes; Use it, or don't use it. It's as simple as that.

It's the context my friend, you were saying that you think it's pointless to use Startbutton programs on Windows 8 when you can just get used to metro.

Key emphasis on the "I" part.

Exactly, if you can get used to it, so should Mr. LesserHellspawn. Again, context. How a conversation works.

I as in me, not everyone else. And indeed it does, however it makes it somewhat difficult to hold a conversation with someone constantly making assumptions. Nevertheless, done with that.

Actually, it's not counter-intuitive at all. Press the Win-Key or move the mouse into the lower left corner and click. Pressing the Win-Key is generally faster as it doesn't require any mouse movement at all. Doesn't matter what version of Windows you're using, the Win-Key is generally faster than using the mouse to access the "start menu" or the "start screen" because it's a singular action.

i do not understand why there's so much whining going on about that start button. basically if you click in the lower left corner of the screen you open up the metro interface, which is just a fullscreen start button. what's the deal? because of stuff like this i really believed the only way to access metro was to press the windows key. i've recently installed windows 8 just to find out it's not like that at all. and i got used to it very fast. the only annoying things in windows 8 are those fullscreen apps for games or media and stuff. the rest is fine. do you REALLY need to SEE the start button?

I don't really miss the start button, already gotten used to this.
