In other words: we will bring you the most useless update ever, but create ridiculous amount of hype around it.

there is a lot of improvement under the hood too but how to make hype with it... no one care. so yes they do hype with useless stuff ... But there is a party with rihana and david guetta, clown, flame thrower and accrobat that is missing to be really hype ((** maybe i am trolling a tiny bit lol **))

"Earlier today at Microsoft's Build 2016 keynote, the firm announced that it had partnered with Canonical to bring Bash to Windows 10. The feature will allow the user to create a Linux command line, access Ubuntu binaries, and despite working from a Linux environment, access the Windows file system."
there is a lot of developpement Windows/linux from M$. and same linux/Windows dev from open world. and it is good 🙂

Finally can post a damn link. The best feature is this: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-demos-bash-running-on-windows-10 "Earlier today at Microsoft's Build 2016 keynote, the firm announced that it had partnered with Canonical to bring Bash to Windows 10. Just a pity Cortana is not available in many countries, so one of the main features Microsoft talks about is not available to all.

Nothing from those features will make my classical desktop experience better in any way. All of them are features to improve W10 tablets and touch screen laptops. I see nothing interesting for our classical desktop usage. There may be more under the hood changes and improvements when this updates comes. In other words this update is completely useless and boring for me. I hope there are fixes, improvements for the desktop experience when it comes out.
To be fair, "Build" focuses mostly on developers and not user-facing features. There are already a number of classical desktop changes in the insider builds. It's been confirmed that they are rebuilding Windows Explorer (hopefully with tab support). Plus they are doing interactive live tiles and rumored to be adding a google now style card system to the notifications/cortana. Virtual desktops also got a bit of a change in one of the newer builds that allows you to run multiple concurrent applications across them. I use it all the time at work.

Get done with implementing Bash into Windows, then I consider upgrading to Win10.
Check out Cygwin Happy Birthday Windows 10!

They need a whole new build to give vsync control back? If they can get some of the store issues fixed I may actually buy GoW, but for now I am staying away.
Phil said the V-Sync fix is coming in May. Anniversary isn't supposed to be out until July. So it sounds like the V-Sync thing is coming in a regular update or some kind of interim build between now and the Anniversary one.

Yes they do. They have to change the Window Manager to do that. As for the rest, even as a person not that close to actual development, Microsoft is probably the best development platform at this moment, not because of the reach of said platform (which is still huge), but because of the capability of the tools in that platform. I was more interested on what Phil Spencer said on the ability to mod Windows Store games. If that's in, then some ACTUAL competition to Steam is due time. As for people comparing it to GFWL, it is nothing like that. This is not only for games, this is the new way Windows gets programs so it's not going anywhere. I listened to most of it live, they spent an awful lot of time trying to say time and time again that they don't create a "walled garden", but that 30% sure stings. Although everybody else except Microsoft is getting it at this point.

Mutli GPU support and vsync toggle for Windows store games and applications is a good thing. But why so late?

To be fair, there are many different builds of Windows 10 so it's not like a different build number has 1000 more features or fixes.

That is a cool feature. Instead of running a Ubuntu live distro from the optical drive you can get access to the commands natively. Maybe this can lead to some great things in the future.

It is kernel-level compatibility with Linux binaries. If they expand it it means that all Linux apps can natively run on Windows. At this point all the important utilities do work.

I just installed 8.1 on a laptop a few weeks ago. The only downside is that you'll have to disable automatic windows update and check every single update manually so that no MS-Spyware or "update to W10" goes through. In my case it's a monthly task, but totally worth the stability level, the no-spyware, and the no-crapware included.

There is no "walled garden" for Windows and there can never be. The "walled garden" idea is that software can only be acquired through a single, solitary source, who controls what software you have access to. For MS to take this approach, it would violate US Anti-Trust laws (not to mention laws in the EU, Japan, etc). It would be a violation that MS has absolutely no legal defense against. The Windows Store does nothing but provide an alternate means for users to acquire software and for developers to distribute software without the need to deal with a publisher and incur additional (unnecessary) distribution costs. Developers can even use the Windows Store to link back to their own website. BitDefender, Avast, McAfee, Panda, AVG, Norton, etc all do this. MS can not force any developers or users to go through the Windows Store to acquire software for a Windows based PC.

That's very easy to solve: Just live in a country sporting a globally minor language.

Windows 10 is rock solid. We already have it partially deployed at my work. We have one core application that does not work in 10 and we are getting ready to deploy it's replacement in the coming weeks so we can then begin moving everyone to 10. Once you disable telemetry and Cortana it is basically a better 8.1.
I've heard so many bad things about audio compatibility and wifi driver problems, that I'm not so sure that it's the best bet yet. In my case, old computers -> Win7, normal ones -> Win8.1... newer ones... I'd still say Win8.1 until W10 gets its stuff together with the spyware, the forced unblockable updates, the included crapware, commecials on the Start menu, etc. Heck, I might even go Win2016 assuming they're not stupid enough to also include forced unblockable updates and the like. Just out of curiosity, does W10 still auto-reboot the computer whenever it wants instead of asking first, or did they change that already?
