When I was looking for a new laptop late last year, I was dismayed by the USB-C charger situation due to how it has been implemented. The laptops only have a single USB-C port, which is used by the charger. Then how do you connect the charger and any USB-C device at the same time, huh? You can do it by buying a third party hub, but that's an additional expense for you, plus you need to haul around an extra item. Why not construct the laptop with two USB-C ports if one is to be sacrificed for charging? Because the laptop manufacturers hate their customers. That's why. In any case, I got myself an HP Probook, which has an old style round charging socket/charger, so the USB-C port is always free for other uses. I simply rejected the models/brands, which only sported a single USB-C used for charging. They can keep their damn jacks.

Are you saying there are no laptops with more than one USB-C port? Doesn't sound right to me. But also I'm a techy guy and in the year 2022 I still have never used USB-C port on my PC or laptop. Maybe in the next 5-10 years I'll finally use USB-C port for something more than just charging up my phone lol.

It really depends on what you use your PC for. Some people may never use their USB-C ports for anything, others need lots of them - especially people working in film and media.

force apple to use it or ban it from selling to EU.

I haven't looked through the whole spectrum. More specifically, I left out all the gaming laptops because I never ended up gaming on my old laptops, so it would have been more trouble than worth for me. So, if those happen to have more than one USB-C, I wouldn't actually know. On the other hand, my very maximum price upper limit was 1000 euros, but I certainly hope a second USB-C port isn't truly treated like a premium feature. I have ended up using the USB-C port for an external HDD or SSD, albeit with a C->A adapter, because the other ports were used by a mouse, a 4G usb modem, and a usb flash drive and/or another SSD. Granted, if the USB-C had been claimed by the charger, I could have unplugged it for a while to use the USB-C for data transfer, but that's exactly what I consider an unnecessary action. Many Lenovo laptops have still one less A ports than my HP, despite using the USB-C for charging. That's crazy. Or maybe everybody else is using cloud for everything, and I'm the crazy one.

I thought about buying a laptop last month because of some interesting deals and i noticed that lots of laptops released 1 year ago don`t have any USB-C ports and others have only one "weaker" port that doesn`t charge... Then others have only 2 USB-C ports. It seems the number of USB-C ports is a selling point and something to differentiate a normal laptop from a premium one...

If the EU could do us all a real solid regarding the "considerable performance discrepancies", that would be appreciated as much as mandating it for phones. Apple might have been annoying by using their Lightning connector in spite of the rest of the industry, but at least you know that whatever Apple device you connect it to, it will work the way you expect (so long as nothing is damaged, of course). With USB-C, not all ports can be used for displays. Not all can deliver the full bandwidth. Not all can deliver data. Not all can deliver more than 15W of power. Of the ports that can deliver more than 15W of power, not all cables can handle that. It's absurd, and now that I'm thinking about it, is there such thing as a device with a USB-C port that can do everything (full bandwidth, power delivery, display, daisy chaining, Thunderbolt, etc)?

There are some pretty small easy-to-pack USB-C splitters out there. I agree it's pretty dumb to only provide a single port. Stuff like this slows down adoption. Also, smart move on using a barrel jack charger. Those are significantly cheaper and easier to replace, especially on HPs. They're also more durable.

I think there´s an USB-C that does all of this or almost but i think it`s reserved for high end laptops. Not that i matters, because most of those high end laptops also have Thunderbolt, unless they are from AMD. And to make everything more confusing, there`s no way to tell a basic USB-C implementation from a complete one...

I assume those laptops can only accept the peak wattage rather than deliver it? Because one of the hypothetical benefits is to be able to connect to an external display and have the computer power it through the same cable. That being said, I wasn't even thinking about how there's inconsistencies between receiving and delivering power. Makes things even more ridiculous.
