If I was a game developer I would say no to both Sony and MS about limiting PC games to 30fps and continue to make them 60fps. Why should Pc gamers suffer if their console counter part can't do 60fps on a consistent basis.

I don't see how this could possibly be true. There are less than a handful of games that ran at 60 frames last gen and almost none that ran at 60 frames at 1080p. Most games this gen have been 30 frames too except for indie games and remakes of last gen games. Sony literally has nothing to gain from doing this.
MS and Sony can both benefit from this because if a product is the same or similar across the board then the idea is more people will just buy the console versions. If this carries on, then, basically there's little point in upgrading your PC because our games will only run at 30fps anyway. The real problem ofcourse is the PS4 and X1 are both under-powered and already maxed-out by current games compared to where PC gfx are at and so we will have to wait years before PC games are actually PC standard again.

It's not that simple. Have you tried to do the same with Dark Souls? NFS Rivals? Skyrim (above 60FPS)? They are all unstable. The game engine has to support running at higher / variable framerate otherwise unlocking the FPS will cause unwanted issues.

It's Microsoft's fault, since they're pushing the whole parity thing! I hate you M$, I want you to know that!!! :cussing:
Me too. Mantle came along and proved that M$ have been neglecting PC gamers. Now we have evidence that they are actively against PC gamers. The sooner somebody creates a better Linux alternative to DirectX the better!

PC gamers need to raise a massive sh1tstorm because of this.
Well, yes. But what do you think will come out of it? Probably the same as usual: nothing. Maybe we all should send them a letter full with powdered sugar to scare them a bit.

Oh dear, this is not going to end well. But if true then this is scandalous.

60FPS is nice, BUT only if its smooth. For instance, Defiance feels jerky even on 60FPS, but i saw Destiny on PS4 and that stupid capped 30FPS felt so unbelievably smooth to me, even in heavy action. I saw it on the 240Hz PS monitor, not some cheap LCD TV, but still, so smoooooth. I really hope, that my new G-sync/FreeSync monitor will finally give me that smoothnes.

30 fps has no place in PC gaming. This wouldn't do AMD or nVidia any favors for their high end gpu market.
I agree, just like I said in the Evil Within 30fps thread.

Very plausible IMO.

Its like saying "MS came to us with lots of $ and benefits, and we could not refuse because Xbox is the only gaming platform we can sell to. We need MS more than they need us." Plain dumb or greedy accepting bribes? You decide.
Another way to look at that is M$ abusing their market position to get their way. I cannot think of another situation where a company gets away operating like this. M$ have an effective monopoly on PC gaming which they use to restrict the competitiveness against another one of their products which isn't in a monopoly and so needs help in it's battle with Sony. Makes me sick.

ive never bought a game thats locked to 30FPS, and thats not going to change. It will result in lost PC sales at the end of the day( and out of spite i wouldnt get one of the new consoles lol ), so........

It's amazing how frequently and incorrectly 24 FPS is talked about, although in this situation it sounds like the engineer may have been attempting sarcasm. In reality content is only viable at frame rates this low thanks to other factors like motion blur. Someone else noted about removing 30 FPS caps on games; generally speaking this isn't a problem, but games can have other effects, logic or AI that is tied to the frame rate. This isn't all about what you can see, but also how fluid that motion feels when you move or look around. For me it's easy to notice this by just taking a 120Hz monitor and moving a window around at the desktop, then comparing it to one running at 60Hz.
Yeah, i mean i can play racing all day @30fps but shooters below 50 is seriously bugging me

Surely being third party developers/publishers the demands of the platform holders should mean very little? But then considering this information has come from Ubisoft I don't really know what to think.

Its ubisoft why should we believe them anything they say now. They nothing but a lying fart at this point, just because they're so incompetent to make a decent engine they go trash this bs around, good luck with that ubisoft, softies :P 😀

Gaming PCs have always dominated consoles in sheer power and yet they've never taken away console market share. Why would they "need" to cap anything to make a console look better? This is much ado about nothing.

I really don't get it - why would MS pressure devs into releasing 30FPS games for Windows? What do they gain from that? If people realize you get a much smoother experience on PC, then MS still makes money. Maybe not as much, but it would sure help their decline on Windows. Meanwhile, Linux SteamOS is gaining some traction and could eventually take these PC sales MS could have had. Anyway, this is why I hate consoles - it's all about the money and not about quality or fun.
