Given that THX is Razer a marketing company 🙂 That's quite the marketing although the cable won't change anything especially with the digital signal. 🙂 Fan boys will buy them though that's for sure.

Even though it is a digital signal the cable still needs to be good enough to work with a HDMI 2.1 8k 60Hz signal. A 6-10 meter HDMI 2.1 is not something you just buy in cheap bargin bins. Personally I would not buy THX efter they started to certify low cost Logitech pc speakers.

is this just another reason to charge $180 for the same materials in a $15 cable?

On other hand HDMI audio cable are around that price, and no a $15 cable just can't be used with good home cinema 🙂 too thin, too weak manufacture and not enough isolation, that lead to bad signal transmission. But as regular HC HDMI have better norm than this certified one and cost (more or less) the same price... wouldn't be a better choise to buy the regular one 🙂 ? (also since 2016 the THX is declining)

Mind you the "digital signal" here is not error corrected, and there is no timing information especially for PCM, it relies on the raises and falls of the voltage that trying to mimic a square wave to determine the timing, but in reality it's more like saw tooth + sine wave, really hard to tell exactly, the system is just very good at making it up using algorithms such as antialiasing

Doesnt need THX cert to ensure full bandwidth proper functioning, just HDMI 2.1 certified is enough. THX just adds marketing appeal for added cost.

I was puzzled about that. THX cert requires speakers to have a flat frequency response, typically within a tight +/- 3db range from 80hz to 20khz. Would be surprised if Logitech could do that.

I was puzzled too when Logitech started to have the THX batch, I think it was around 10 years ago. At the time I looked up the specs required, they changed the specs from something scientifically measurable ( like the +/- 3db range from 80hz to 20khz you mentioned), to something like: bass boost yes/no Bass amplitude compensation yes/no Automatic tone control yes/no or something vague like that and now 10 years or so later I am not even able to find the requirements any more, now it is more guidelines or pay us to come and test. Listen to this fantastic quote: "THX recommends getting the biggest subwoofer that your living space and budget will allow. In the world of THX Certified speaker systems, a 12-inch or 2×10-inch subwoofers is a minimum requirement." My floor standing speakers are very close to going as low as a mid quality 12 inch sub, but because they are called front speakers and not subwoofer, no certificate for me.

you're 95% dead on the 5% is where bad manufacturing comes in. the biggest flaws in cables are strain relief and bad materials. the bad materials include the wiring, solder, insulation and jacketing. these flaws can result in signal attenuation, RFI, and out-of-spec inductance and resistance. strain relief issues are the most common and most maddening problem in buying cables - even upmarket. this causes intermittant signal loss. molded plugs have to highest incidence of strain relief failure / broken solder joints. however, a well made molded plug with a thick flexible jacket and foil wrapped wire is often the best value. the best cables have crimped and soldered wires inside a hard body plug - metal looks better but hard plastic works just as well. there is also dedicated strain relief which typically means a crimped jacket below the solder joint inside the plug

399$ does it come with pair of speakers? long run you need good cables but short runs that "cheap" cables or fine been using monoprice cable for decades cables are fine

For someone who needs 15-20meter of HDMI cable for projector, what's a good and cheap alternative?

THX certification isn't a one size fits all certification, there are different levels of certification based on the use case of the product. So for example, multimedia speakers designed for the PC won't be held to the same standards as full sized theatre speakers and will receive the appropriate level of certification based on that.
THX has created a certification process for additional products including home audio, home theater, video, and automotive sound components and products. THX certification extends to home audio receivers, speakers, desktop systems, soundbars, acoustic materials, microphones, and HDMI cables.[40] THX Certified Ultra THX Certified Ultra products are for larger home theaters, 3,000 cu ft (85 m3) in size, with a viewing distance of 12 foot (3.7 m) or greater from the screen. THX Certified Select THX Certified Select products are for medium-sized rooms, up to 2,000 cu ft (57 m3) in size, with a 10–12 foot (3.0–3.7 m) viewing distance from the screen. THX Certified Compact THX Certified Compact products for smaller sized rooms, up to 2,000 cu ft (57 m3) in size, with an 8 foot (2.4 m) viewing distance from the screen. THX Certified Dominus THX Certified Dominus products are for expansive home theater spaces, 6,500 cu ft (180 m3) in size, with a 20 foot (6.1 m) viewing distance from the screen. I/S Plus Systems THX's I/S Plus systems include an AV Receiver + Speaker Bundle and are certified to fill a small home theater or dorm room where the viewing distance from the screen is 6–8 feet (1.8–2.4 m). These THX certified home theater in a box systems are so far exclusively made by Onkyo.[41] and Enclave Audio.[42] Multimedia products THX Certified Multimedia Products are designed and engineered for PC gaming and multimedia on the desktop.
