I know some may hate me bu i think that TV as well as GPU producers need to start producing lower energy products. At least at TV's at the moment 4K is more that enough. So 4K and lover consumption whit better picture quality should be the focus. 8K maybe in 10 years at the rate 4K is being adopted. Let's be clear, we still lack 4K content... This is what i think so don't kill me

No, you're totally right.

we also know that blogger resolutions often require more energy.
Spot on.

We really don't need 8K TVs. So this is a non-issue.

I still get TV in 720p. Everybody wants to charge extra for 4K content. I don't see a need for 8K TVs anytime soon.

Ya cant really speak for everyone though 😉 Im thinking whether i should get https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/qn900a-8k-qled or qn900b for 8k gaming with controller. Qn900b is obviously a bit better, but also twice the price !

You are right, I can't speak for everyone. But still, for most people 8K is a waste. The screen needs to be really big for there to be a noticeable difference. And content is lagging behind a lot. Even for 4K, a lot of content doesn't take advantage of all those pixels, especially with streaming.

The EU banning higher power TVs will make zero difference to energy use globally. Its just a directive that allows Governments to tick a pre election promise off the list, it also lets the average Joe feel that they are doing their bit to save the planet, while they each charge their many phones, tablets, laptops, earpods, earphones, watches, cars, bikes, truck etc, all of which use electricity. Remember when 40 years ago the UN said we had six years to save the planet.

Oh, for movies and tv it doesn't make sense, i agree. I would be buying it to play games on it at 8k 😀 And for that it doesn't really need to be big - on the contrary, it ideally wouldn't be bigger than 55 inch, so you'd have very high pixel density, but 65 inch is ok aswell.

Well... yes and no. If every household goes from having a constant power draw of say 300 watts to 150 watts max on their tv (which alot of homes have running all the time), that would be a noticable drop in national power draw.

One or 1000 persons that buy it is totally fine. We don't need 8k tvs means they shouldn't be mainstream, not even as mainstream as a 4090.

In a lot of countries, one of the biggest peaks of electricity usage, during the day, is when people get home and turn on the TV. If everyone has a TV that saves just a bit of energy, it ads up to a lot watts on a European scale. And with energy prices still high, every watt counts.

The future of 8K TVs is in danger because... peoples eyes cannot see the difference at normal viewing distances.

40 years ago the UN was every bit as useless as it's today. The world would save a lot of energy if the UN was shut down. Too bad washed-out politicians enjoy high-paying jobs there, so they love it. Thinking that nothing will affect things on the global scale will only lead to nothing being done. The reality is that Europe must save power because the imports from Russia might be cut off or severely reduced for decades. Germany, which went bonkers by deciding to stop nuclear power entirely and making Moscow its Ministry of Energy, is just the worst example of Europe's troubles. New electricity sources will be created out of drastic need, encouraged by high power prices, but it won't happen overnight. Nuclear power plants (in countries other than Germany) take a decade, at least, to be built. Renevable energy sources take less time to build, at least. Coal power, the worst possibility of all pollution wise, is being boosted, also by the oh-so-green Germany. It would really pay off to try to reduce energy use, especially in the meantime.

Oh no! Anyway...
data/avatar/default/avatar21.webp
I don't see it as a problem? We need to reduce the power consumption, otherwise we are just going to get next gen TV, GPU and CPU to use 2000W just for "evolution"

The hell does the UN have to do with any of this? Or are we just listing random things we personally dislike?

This also effects high brightness 4K TVs and 4K OLEDs (for example, Samsung's and Sony's QD-OLEDs fall into this category). At the moment TVs hit a maximum brightness of roughly 2000 nits, but to achieve that they use more power than these new requirements allow... So what about future TVs? A growing number of HDR movies are mastered to 4000 nits of brightness and some even as high as 10,000 nits. You may not feel this is needed, but go back 10 years and a lot of people didn't think anything better than DVD quality was needed. I feel guidelines can be a good thing, but not such tight legislation that it stifles the advancement of technology and growth.

Anyone stating there is no need for 8K surely doesnt know what they are talking about, same for content. its related to screen size and distance, and running anything above 70in at less than 10ft you will be able to tell the difference. and content gets up-scaled, the same way it was for 4k tvs before 4K content became (more) available.
