It looks really good. I did see a couple things which i thought were weird though. The "enemy" fighters had Ailerons. I guess maybe that's for planetary maneuvering, maybe you can fly to a planet and maybe land on one. But in space there's no need, no air. Also the enemy fighters were aerodynamic, again, no air, not a problem. Definitely curious to see where this game goes though.

"and even talk of incorporating citizenship rules such as paying tax." Really? Having no freedom in real life is not enough? Lets put a leash around their necks so that they feel right at home! Pathetic idea.
Become Pirate, don't pay tax. (A lot of this stuff seems to be being asked for by a sect of people I like to call a "Bunch of anal retentive ********")

LOL they are trying to replicate a universe where the "safe" territory is controlled by a thinly veiled dictatorship, outside of the "safe" space is a lawless outer frontier element. Seeing as they are fleshing out the economy properly, tax is a part of the economy whichever way you look at it, so it's going to be there. Don't worry you won't need to go to a school of about economics before you can get ingame and enjoy getting shot by me.

SC is going to be in beta for the next 2 years.

Economics? How about replacing it with Ethics for once. Monkey see monkey do!
there are no ethics in anarchy. Also, i'm really excited for this game and have reserved a package already. so i'm looking forward to it.

Economics can be modelled ingame. The Ethics part is up to the players. Who by and large are a pretty good cross section of general society. If the game didn't have politics or any normal rivalry/conflict it wouldn't be much fun. Too many carebears and anal retentives... Oh and I'm yet to see much in the way of Ethics being put to good use IRL let alone in games 😉

Real life should have nothing to do with video games. Why the hell would I want to pay taxes in a video game?

Yes I've got my eye on this, I left Eve online after playing that for 18 months, got bored of it in the end but I may well return to the space mmo with this title.

Well, the ships must be flyable in atmospheric situations. You must be able to land on planet.

From what I've read, there wont be any planetary landings. It's all set in space.

Well, every space shooter/strategy/sim games have sounds. You're not going to nitpick that? =b
They do? I'm deaf. Ok not really, but you can still hear the sounds of your own ship if it's a pressurized cockpit. Including if you get hit by enemy fire, it could cause vibrations or micro explosions that travel to the cockpit. And for indirect explosions, though there's no shockwave, you can still be hit by high velocity micro debris, which would again, make sound in a cockpit on impact. Space combat isn't THAT silent.

So was minecraft and it didn't really bother anyone. It seems to be the new in-thing to have games in development and available at reduced price for extended times, then launch at full price after a long period of open beta.
I've noticed that tend too. Mostly common with F2P games. War Thunder was in open beta for 6 or 7 months, but still allowed planes to be purchased, even though it wasn't a full release. What tends to happen is that the planes you bought would be nerfed at later stages to balance the game. This encouraged people to carry on buying planes. I hope this doesn't happen with SC. Are we going to see a game worth the 35 million? Very unlikely.

Well, the planet side landings are of course automated at this time (like in Freelancer) but the ship but the ships do need to enter to atmosphere in order to land. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTBzrUwB6Qo Atmospheric flights are planned but after the game has been released.

Kind of underwhelmed by the engine right now, graphically its not looking that amazing considering they've had $35 million investment but it's still early days hopefully the finished product will be better, was hoping for a first person perspective as well with the talk of implementing rift support, 3rd person doesn't really lend itself well to the rift, anyway time will tell.

o.O Ghosty you are throwing strawman arguments around like candy and stereoman, are you serious? Have you ever seen a game that's in development at this early an alpha stage before? It's not had optimisation, it's not got the polish of a released game yet, that all comes later towards the end of alpha and during beta. Currently they are focusing on base game mechanics and getting the art from concept into the game. Oh and stereoman there is First Person and Third Person modes. Use F1 to switch between them same as Crysis.

never mind just watched another video, seems it has both 1st person and 3rd person. 🙂

yeah just realized it has both but I did say it's early days as far as graphics goes, I loved all the wing commander games so I am looking forward to this just hope they can deliver a great experience for everyone.

A lot of people have nitpicked that, but like with electric cars they often have sounds added so the driver can get the same feel as a normal car when driving, so the fluff is that there is audio feedback for the pilot, or whatever 😀

All I've seen is talk about ships. Haven't seen any in game pictures or footage of the game world, only a little download where you can view a couple of ships and sit in them.... At least Elite has actually released a couple of single player missions to showcase how the game mechanics will work.
