It looks really good. I did see a couple things which i thought were weird though. The "enemy" fighters had Ailerons. I guess maybe that's for planetary maneuvering, maybe you can fly to a planet and maybe land on one. But in space there's no need, no air.
Also the enemy fighters were aerodynamic, again, no air, not a problem.
Definitely curious to see where this game goes though.

Yes I've got my eye on this, I left Eve online after playing that for 18 months, got bored of it in the end but I may well return to the space mmo with this title.

Atmospheric flights are planned but after the game has been released.
Well, the planet side landings are of course automated at this time (like in Freelancer) but the ship but the ships do need to enter to atmosphere in order to land. stereoman
Kind of underwhelmed by the engine right now, graphically its not looking that amazing considering they've had $35 million investment but it's still early days hopefully the finished product will be better, was hoping for a first person perspective as well with the talk of implementing rift support, 3rd person doesn't really lend itself well to the rift, anyway time will tell.

o.O
Ghosty you are throwing strawman arguments around like candy and stereoman, are you serious? Have you ever seen a game that's in development at this early an alpha stage before? It's not had optimisation, it's not got the polish of a released game yet, that all comes later towards the end of alpha and during beta. Currently they are focusing on base game mechanics and getting the art from concept into the game.
Oh and stereoman there is First Person and Third Person modes. Use F1 to switch between them same as Crysis.

never mind just watched another video, seems it has both 1st person and 3rd person. 🙂

A lot of people have nitpicked that, but like with electric cars they often have sounds added so the driver can get the same feel as a normal car when driving, so the fluff is that there is audio feedback for the pilot, or whatever 😀
