So in a few years they will move on to Vista and we will all die because of it.

Actually, no. When they press the button to launch the missiles, it'll just BSOD. We're saved.

I know why but i can't say, just certain types of software doesn't play nice with W7 onwards. One would think developing software again from scratch would be better but hey budget cuts.

They probably just said... hey, Windows 10 has tons of backdoors too. Let's protect the system through other means. (I'm just guessing). Personally I would have gone Linux on such an expensive boat.

Many industrial control software still running just fine on Windows XP, and they are producing a lot of our "stuff". These people are not browsing the internet or playing games on those computers, so for the purpose they have been built it works perfectly. I personally see only one type of upgrade from XP... going straight to Linux. All MS os-es after XP are unstable, bloated pieces of crap... Check "WinSxS" - I rest my case.

They are using not because of security or some "special" tonfoil features, they use it because software was properly written Once/ Twice at best. And left untouched. Moving towards a new platform would require a rework, as a result additional investment. Thats why various industrial companies offices use up to date software, while their machines and manufacturing floor run on Windows XP ( XP being some of the most "modern" in those cases" ).

Your subjective opinion. XP same as rest has its loopholes which can be easily hacked, with due time and effort. Only thing that saves those machines running old system is the fact Majority of them are disconnected from the web and can be accessed only locally.

Probably salvaged computers from somewhere else. Either that or really stupid, as linux would have been a better choice.

it depend on country... In end 90's when i was in army we were passing from XP to a special distro of Linux, it take lot of time to change infrastructure but i think it was the right move. It depend on who have the wallet ๐Ÿ™‚ (Vote for the right person ...)

that's great , the army has another toy to play with they'd better build a job center here and there or a factory or something , twats 4.5 billion for a f*ckin boat ( that's never gonna be used for anything but cruising ) , and people struggle to have a diner everyday , nice job England

20 years ago? It should run Windows 95 and they should prepare themselves for Windows 98 upgrade. Hope they do not attach a USB scanner during a battle..

Didn't know aircraft carriers have missiles with nuclear warheads :P

One does not simply walk onto a warship and upgrade the OS. Chances are, 25 years from now, that ship will still be using WinXP. Building an Aircraft Carrier is far more complex than tinkering with a home PC or even a massive business network. It takes years of planning and building, during which time, newer technology may emerge. It would need to be significantly better to put in a change order of that magnitude.

It might need some PAE's enabled to fire missiles...

The armed forces are in place so you can continue to whine in your native tongue. Putting food on the table is the same struggle whether the ship cost 10 dollars or 4.5 billion. Serve your country for two or three years and I assure you, your position on the armed forces will change. They landed on the moon with a computer with less ram than your oldest cell phone had. Windows platform is all you need to make the ship go left, right, or in a circle etc.. And when it goes to sea, the sea trials will shake out any weaknesses in the platform and upgrades will be done accordingly.:tomcat:

My friend works for (and I used to) a credit card protection insurance company and all staff still have windows XP (I asked him when this story came out) with customer support for many millions paid to Microsoft. The UK military has the same agreement. The company I now work for is a FTSE100 company with more customer data than you can shake a stick at and we use windows xp too. When I worked at Experian who hold the credit file of every person in the UK Windows XP was used and is still used.
