Very quick on the fix here

Does it delete my SSD? Got two of them, both as system disks... and IÄm not even sure I got the tools to properly back up my system disk! Gotta check if the software that came with the desktop upgrade kit with the 840 can help me there... ?

You have to use the performance restoration app available here. It updates the firmware and does the restoration. Going to run it now, wish me luck lol Edit- Was smooth and fairly quick with no issues. Windows integrity and check disk show no issues so a big thumbs up to samsung

So I guess your disk wasn't deleted, right? 😀

I guess you mean does it delete the contents of your SSD. No it doesn't but it's alway safe to backup your important stuff JUST in case but you should be ok, it's not designed to delete all of your stuff but if things go wrong it might hence the warning.

Yeah, that's what I wanted to know. I was anyway planning to back things up, but my question was if I'd need to set up windows new alltogether because it's the system discs, and the answer seems to be no. Back in the days of the first SSDs I do remember those firmware updates to delete your disc, that's why I was asking 😉

Nah it doesn't delete anything. The warning is always there when updating firmware to cover their rears -as with any drive/manufacturer- but I'd be amazed if it did on these newer drives. It's basically a firmware update and data rewrite I guess

Ran smooth and without any trouble, thanks for the fix.

Oh finally, this week i got to rewriting my entire skyrim folder since I was finding my self waiting for up to 30 secs on load screens.. Hope this fix doesn't reduce the lifespan of the drive however.. (tho im pretty sure it will, it's inevitable)

Im sure there is no need to worry about SSD's lifespan today, you wil have upgraded to new SSD, long before this one dies anyways.
Unless they improve this, it might become an issue in the future though as prices decrease and sizes increase (and the need for a mechanical HDD inside a PC becomes more and more obsolete).

Im worried, they arent all that great just yet. But 3dnand does seem to be the step that gets us over the hump truly. Just too damn expensive atm.

Not seeing the update on Magician yet, anyone else?

Lol and I just got one of these arrived today, waiting to stick it in a new / rebuild as a game specific storage device. Lucky me I get to do the fix prior to sticking any data on the drive.

Guess it bites me in the rear now that I got the 1 TB version AND fairly well filled it. Step 3 takes like forever.

Kinda small drive being 1gb. Should take about a minute.
fixed, ty  And it's still running, 83% currently. That'll be an overnight run I guess.

All done. No data lost and it was a breeze. I wish I recorded the before and after changes in something like HD Tach because I'm not seeing much change when I look at the before and after with the benchmark in samsung magician
