Nice to see more reviews of the custom Vega GPU's. π
EDIT:
That's not too bad, what does it translate too at retailers though.
And let's see here (56 version.) one store has them listed so far from what I can tell (Not in stock though.) for...700 USD after conversion.
(Sans tax and such which in total drives it up to about 840 USD.)
Guessing the shortage and price hiking isn't going away any time soon.
Nice review though, always fun to read these. π
EDIT: Some Sapphire 64's are listed too on a few stores between 750 to 800 Euro or 900 - 950 USD roughly.
At that point you're really going to want to look into a 1080Ti ha ha, well hopefully this will be resolved before too long.
(I mean it's only been about four months or so now since the product launched. π Ha ha.)
EDIT: And going back to the review it seems the cooler is doing pretty good keeping thermals in check and at a slightly reduced noise level although overall performance isn't too different but it's a little bit faster than the stock 56 π
(Though even the '56 draws a fair bit of power compared to competing products.)
And I see there's a mention of the pricing and availability situation at the final page of the review.
Wonder if there's going to be a review of the Sapphire version eventually, that should be a fun read.
(More power! Ha ha, well as long as there's a good PSU in the system I suppose that's one way to get more out of the GPU and it does have a bios switch that lowers it down a bit.)
So these and any other Vegas will be the main availability from now on then with AMD no longer making reference models available and existing supply slowly dwindling down.
Will be interesting to see what the situation looks like next year, primarily for price and availability but also if other models will be unveiled and if there's any truth to the Vega refresh GPU but then that's going to hit right into another supply and demand situation I'd imagine.

I couldn't agree more with your whole post JonasBeckman

Is the memory used in 56 and 64 different? Cheaper variety in 56? Or does AMD artificially create the value difference between them by forcing lower MHz in the 56 and disabling overclocking the memory? Maybe HBM2 is so delicate it will melt if overclocked practically at all.
Why don't you buy all the relevant cards and test, let's say 500 games with them and some computing plus productivity software while you are at it? We'll hear back from you in 2019 when you publish the results. I'm afraid you won't be seeing the break for a good long while, but you can prove your point beyond doubt.

Other then the hot wire/power connector this looks like a nice Vega 56 (at default or silent mode esp). Of course pricing and availability are a different story, but at MSRP this looks attractive to me.

These are more expensive than the faster 1080s here in the UK too, lol.

Assuming you actually could buy one over here, the price still makes the purchase totally unreasonable, other than, I guess, for mining purposes if that allows you to get the money back. I don't know about the "AMD video card + freesync screen" vs "Nvidia GPU + gsync screen" combo comparison price wise, but for me personally it would be a null point. I would never pay more for a card than what it's worth technology wise. Just like I would never buy concert tickets from a reseller for a bloated price. I suppose this situation is all the same for AMD, but it sure won't make people happy.

Nice card but the fact that the card makes some noise when turning on the fans is a big let down... It should be totally silent until the fans start to spin really fast.
I wonder if thereΒ΄s a Vega card in the giveaway menu because the street prices are simply crazy, here in Portugal a stock Vega 56 costs more than 500β¬ and they are all out of stock...

a very nice card indeed. aside from the likelihood that most here would want to o.c., this (at m.s.r.p.)
is a fantastic 1440p card for freesync.
if you spend the same for a monitor, then you can have a kick-ass Ryzen 5 system for not much scratch, but with a big monitor and a nice card you can leave alone.

idk wtf is going on w/ availability. i got a reference Vega 56 at NewEgg two months ago at regular price.
this weird ass crypto crap makes some aftermarket cards more expensive than mine with the water block. i didn't buy a "bundle" card, just the card to replace an old gtx 980 that i had in the threadripper.
i'm using a LG 34uc80 (34" freesync 1440p)
and while i could use i more expensive card, i don't need to... 'tho i don't really game on it (fps drops vs. ryzen 7) except for mmo's and rpg's when i have the time there.

Enormous power consumption. Draws more energy than Titan Xp. And that's not even Vega 64. AMD should lower price some 30-40% down. And next time should not save on CUs with proper frequency and voltage.

Since it sits between 1070 and 1080, why have I the notion AMD cards draw more power for the same performance? I really don't know how I acquired this idea -but still think holds true.
Also, if the price the guy mentions ( about 700 - 800 ) is true, too, my next card will be either 1170 or 1160 ( assuming these will be the next Nvidia's names ).
I'd give my shite for a 1160 with HBM2 and about 280-300 euros. Yeah, I know, it's nice dreaming.

This is quite underwhelming and very late. I was able to overclock my 290 to 1120MHz recently so I'm okay for the time being π.
Anyway, I'm hoping that the rumored refresh happens and AMD is able to work out the power consumption issues. Along with lower HBM2 prices (more manufacturers and better yields), the refresh could be my next upgrade. Won't even wait for custom cards, will buy a ref. card and do something I've been wanting to try out for some time now - a custom liquid loop.

As they (the reference cards) were pushed to their limits to get near the 1070/80s.

Was thinking about getting one, but consuming more power than a 1080ti while not beating 1080 and most of the time more expensive, sorry but nope.

All Vega 56 should be flashed with the Vega 64 BIOS and undervolted. I still don't know why these are being overvolted. Do those two things and you have a winner, easily.
