Extremely impressive card, thanks HH for a great review. Now the elephant in the room, are there any existing or upcoming PC games that need this insane power?
I think Cyberpunk is a pretty good example if you're a 4k gamer.

Shadow of the BEAST :P Great GPU IMhO, raster uplift is here for sure.

"It feels bizarre to talk about products that consume 425~450 Watts (nearly half a Kilowatt per hour of gaming) in times when people are concerned about heating their homes in the winter." I mean, the more you game, the warmer your house will be... sooo...
it's still a lot better than we expected, rumors reported tdp so high it should come with iodine pills in the box. https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-reportedly-testing-900w-graphics-card-with-full-next-gen-ada-ad102-gpu

@Hilbert Hagedoorn Any chance you could do an underclock review? I think this gen I am more interested in nailing power efficiency than all out performance.
I've experienced a little with it in MSFS, mainly limiting the power limiter to 50~60% hovering at 300 Watts; it did cost half the performance roughly ... other than that I have not had the time to check any further as there are five other RTX 4090 reviews pending and worked on.

The performance increase is HUGE! Nvidia really did it this time - from a technological point of view this is a work of art.... Generally each gen there was a 30 - 35% increase in performance but now the jump is crazy.

It's enormous, power hungry, and expensive; I think average 4K performance is the only thing saving it.

what I said during launch event.technology is absolutely incredible (rt performance,dlss3,rasterized is really good too) but what good is great technology when few can afford it. it's cutting edge technology that is totally stalling progress in computer graphics at the same time. that said, with that level of rt performance increase,we should see 4060 matching 3070 in rasterized but beating 3080 with rt on,easily. with dlss3, it'll smash 3090. incredible cards on technological level.

Nice and fast for 4K... and probably the only reason for anyone to buy it. Still, nowhere near the promised 2x increase. I do love the march of progress!

Now this is the true RT generation - pair it with DLAA (not DLSS) and the visuals would look amazing!

I'm curious how bad/good the "4080 12GB" will be since it's on a better price point (around 3080Ti territory). Will you get a better increment than between the 3080+ cards or not?

Not sure if you're allowed to tell but I assume the AIB reviews will be out the same second as the 4090 is released? Just like last time?

AMD execs have either just grinned to each other or, shat their pants.
It all depends. AMD today announced 6900XT MSRP at around $670. Which is 30% cheaper than it's 3090/3090Ti competitors. Which means AMD trying to clear stock fast before 7000 series, instead of manipulating the market like Nvidia admitted doing, keeping the 3000 series at high prices in parallel with the 4000 series just to get more money. Don't forget in 3 generations we went from $700 to the top card (1080Ti), to $1600 (4090). There is whole video with Jensen saying so to the shareholders, and just because of that EVERYONE should be boycotting Nvidia. Because that is showing anti-consumer practices.

We need new games that look better and are more graphically demaning! This thing is a beast, but I don't need it, as my 2080 Ti does fine at WQHD.

and lower avg/peak power than 3090ti/6950xt

That's not a secret, yes AIB reviews will be out by tomorrow when sales of the cards commence.

tbh it's so fast it's being cpu bottlenecked even at 4K. https://tpucdn.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-founders-edition/images/average-fps_3840-2160.png it's same at 4K as 3090Ti at 1440p https://tpucdn.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-founders-edition/images/average-fps_2560_1440.png

BTW, just remembered that Intel decide to have the release of their Arch GPUs, on the same day as the RTX 4090. 😀

I don't understand how that proves a CPU bottleneck, generally. Certainly there are a couple games in which its clearly held back, Borderlands 3 for example, but the CPU is good up to at least 200 FPS average across their games as proven by the 4090's 1440p results. Here I found a few 8k benchmarks which seem to show roughly the same average scaling (~35%) between the 3090ti and 4090 at 8k. I think the GPU's actual scaling is something like 30-40%, depending on your selection of games, ignoring raytracing.

Fk if I can't afford it... I want one!!! 😀:D:D
