Best gaming processor for now! Disable Ecores, clock it high to near 6GHZ, put it on Z690 MB and DDR4-4000CL14 kit probably the best bang for the buck. Within a measly 1-5 FPS vs all the top CPU at 4K! lol... Even at 1080p less than 5% spread... Or go 12600KF and buy that 4090 GPU for 4K gaming.

That seems to be some amazing value. The article mentions combining with DDR4 a couple of times to save some bucks, but nowhere it states what the performance difference is when doing that. Will there be a separate test for it?

Beats 12900k, fantastic gaming cpu

Great review @Hilbert Hagedoorn , your reviews are always top notch , thank you. 13600k The little cpu that beats Ryzen's 7xxx cpu's in gaming performance almost equal the bigger brother 13900k within 1~5 fps 😱 , serious power on this little Gem. Now people do have a good cheap cpu upgrade path , 5800X3D or 13600K right now or wait for the Ryzen 7800X3D. Competition is a good thing for everyone 😀

Crikey, that's some chart topping performance! Although also a bit disheartening to see Intel and AMD deeming using as much power as a Threadripper 2970 WX as acceptable...

13600K is a well done cpu, intel deserve a credit here. So for gaming it's either 5800x3D if you on AM4, or 13600K if you want to invest in new system or wait for 7000X3D if you don't need it now.

Definitely the best all-around gaming CPU when you also account for value but I'm not liking that power draw. I'll still wait for the 13400. It ought to have significantly better performance-per-watt without significantly impacting performance, and it should be a lot cheaper.

Hopefully Intel's good performance draws AMD's prices down, unless AMD wants to commit seppuku.

I have to say i`m surprised by how good this CPU is for gaming, a "small" beast! This CPU is so good that AMD needs to lower the prices of the 7600x and 7700x in order to remain competitive for gamers. But in the end, both Intel and AMD have great CPUs and i don`t think anyone can go wrong one with either, so choice is a question of preference or finding the best deals. For my case, this CPU would be the best choice but i would like to try AMD for my next build. But both need to drop their prices, because they are both overpriced. Great review!

Nah,better just reduce the volume but keep the margins high...

Better for them but worse for us.

For now the price is 400 € here in Finland so not that appealing altogether. I count more on the i5-13400 for pure gaming use, but for mixed use for 300 € this would automatically beat R7 7700X, which has eight regular cores available for gaming and is not that much slower in other tasks. Overall platform cost is the main factor, which depends on if you are planning to use DDR4 or 5, going to overlock or not, or if you wish to upgrade again in two to three years. A quite impressive feat this i5-13600K is after all, but the price is stingy to me.

Nice performance. But, price, energy consumption and so no. Make all a bit false for me. Needs a 65watt mode here. 😛

Undying:

Better for them if they can sell the CPUs but with those prices and with Intel providing this kind of competition, that`s going to be hard. I maintain that AMD needs to lower their prices, and fast, otherwise they risk losing this battle very badly to Intel.

i think i5-13400f might be interesting option , a true gaming king($/FPS). As architecture has some nice gaming improvements , but efficiency is worse than Zen4. Gaming efficiency is around 10/11 gen which is very surprising for me. I expected it to be Zen3 levels at least or better. Can't wait for i5-13400f. https://tpucdn.com/review/intel-core-i5-13600k/images/efficiency-gaming.png

Go see 13900k at 88w on computerbase. You'll be blown away.

In fps the intel 13 are ahead, but in performance per watt are the amd 7000 and 5000. To play the 5800x3d is still one of the best. If AMD lowers prices a bit, it can compete well.

I looked at HUB video with 4090 and at the end, they did the full price upgrade CPU+MB+RAM and 5800X3D beat them all vs FPS... One can get a good enough B series MB with up to 64GB of cheap RAM and run it with an AIR COOLER. Only the 12400, 12/13600 might be air cooled and close to this value. Everything else needs extra $100 AIO WC on top...

I'm still using an RTX 3080 + 8700k stock. Should I upgrade or just have the cpu undergo a liquid metal mod and oc it? tia

If you are CPU bound, you should look at upgrading. It really depends on the games you play and the resolution.
