Agree with Lily on the best choices are the 5600X and 5900X based on the current pricing scheme. The 5600X is going to be the new King of budget gaming CPU. It has so much headroom still left with the right GPU.

Anyone got some 3090 SLI test ? 😀 Want to seee if 5600X can bottleneck that .

Running a single gpu with half the cores switched off on cpu would give you same kinda outcome.

Kinda , but not the same 😀

@Hilbert Hagedoorn If you get time is it possible you could fire up flight simulator on this chip or any of the future Zen 3 ones you do? Your earlier benchmark of that title (with the 9900K) indicated it's CPU bottlenecked.. with the 2080Ti/3080 tying each other - another game I play is Starcitizen - which also is typically heavily CPU bottlenecked in a similar regard. Kind of curious if swapping to a Zen 3 would help alleviate this in these titles. I think FS2020 would demonstrate that. https://www.guru3d.com/index.php?ct=articles&action=file&id=63724&admin=0a8fcaad6b03da6a6895d1ada2e171002a287bc1

I answered that in the other thread already actually. But with 200+ comments, I guess it was lost in translation 😉 Ehm, so I had planned to embed FS2020 into the CPU testing suite but realized it would be mission impossible time-wise with the downloads and install time (that just takes ages). That said I am planning to add some sort of update to my FS2020 review with the inclusion of ZEN3.

I thought the 5800X only had one CCX? Skimming through your link, it doesn't appear to say otherwise. I would expect the 5700(X) to have a pair of CCXs.
Where do i say that it doesn't... The 5800x uses a single ccx, as does the 5600x.

I guess I'm gonna wait until the price for this drops and get it then. My 3600X (yeah I'm one of the 10 people who bought it 😀) still does everything I need it to do, but since I'm staying on x570 for the foreseeable future, might as well stick in something more future proof down the line. Not at this price though. My main concern right now is upgrading my GPU. Hope the 6800XT lives up to at least 75% of the hype 🙂.

Is it just me or is the idle power on these high? Or is that down to the mobo?

You said: "i really think amd made a mistake by not making a high binned 8 core single ccx cpu " Is that not what the 5800X is? Because it is a high-binned 8 core, so that leads me to believe you meant it isn't a single CCX. Though, after re-reading your comment, I think what you meant is they could've pushed the 5800X harder. Chances are, they're probably going to have a 5800XT.

Mobo. RGB these days eats 5 to 10w easily. Next to that historically Asus boards use a fraction more as well as PCIE 4.0 and stuff like 2.5gige chips, AX wifi all do need a tad more power overall.

AMD should have named this 8 core part the 5700X and then had a 5800X as 10 core 2 CCX. With only 5/8 cores active they might have been able to hit some really good clock speeds and use up some chips where more cores which failed validation. I guess the issue would have been people comparing the price for a 5700X against the 3700X.

I don't think AMD likes to waste cores and not use them, I mean basically, you are disabling 6 cores. While a working 16 cores processor can do close to what you want as well, binning the best dies and cores tieing the best ones to fast turbo bins.

It is not a high binned cpu, hence it having lower boost clocks than the 5950x, which was the entire point of what i wrote...

Ah, that makes perfect sense! Cheers, boss! I'm loving the performance on these things.

@Hilbert Hagedoorn what CPU cooler did you use for all of these tests?

I didn't mean that they should have deliberately disabled good cores but instead use the CCX units which failed validation of 3 cores.
