this is what i expected. the 6800xt is the one for me, it'll be exactly what i need. btw... AMD always has wiggle room on pricing, do not be disappointed the 1st week at list (or higher) prices. they are expecting a response from Nvidia especially inbetween $400 - $600. expect a 1660ti like Ampere to make hay until rx 670 (equiv) comes out. i expect there to be better pricing and availability after 11/24 (US Thanksgiving)

So at 1080p AMD is king, at 1440p AMD and Nvidia are about equal and 4K it's Nvidia's territory. I assume that at 3440x1440, Nvidia will have an advantage as well.

I just read the TPU Smart Memory review for comparison and when they used a Ryzen 5900X system vs Intel, they had a major uplift of many games over the Intel CPU alone, with or without SAM. A couple of their review test were weird like F1 @ 4K FPS plummets by 40% vs 1440p on the Ryzen SAM system, yet it is STILL nearly double vs the Intel per resolution @ over 300 FPS?! Some were the same or nearly the same. I wonder how much fine wine is there still left from AMD as drivers matures on the 6x00 series?! Too bad no one did a 6800 SAM review to see how good it can be in a full AMD ecosystem.

Nvidia is king at 4k until they run out of memory in future games 3090 aside...

I expect March for good pricing /availability from both teams by that time the scalpers will be eyeing intel's new desktop cpu.

"AMD massively is missing some sort of DLSS though, and that will always give GeForce RTX cards an edge." I was happy to see that non-feature missing.
I think it goes beyond missing a DLSS feature, it's more the ray tracing implementation. Alex@Digital Foundry mentioned:
From my developer conversations AMD is just behind - it is a hardware difference. Their RT implementation does not accelerate as much of the RT pipeline. It does not accelerate ray traversal, so an AMD GPU is spending normal compute on that in comparison to NV having a hw unit in the RT core doing that. It is also getting contention due to how it is mapped in hardware. I have been told AMD RT is decidedly slower at incoherent rays than NV RT implementation. So the more incoherent rays a game has, the more rays shot out, the more objects possibly hit... the greater the difference in relative performance in the architectures becomes. But I would like to test it to see where exactly the differences lie.

can't see that happen anytime soon,I mean not for the whole lifespan of next gen consoles which are 4K 10gb also. nvidia emphasized bandwidth for 4K and tried to hit a sweet spot with vram size. amd went all in for capacity but lack of bandwidth shows already, though just a little in most cases.

1080p is a joke for those cards, already was for high end turing.it's like running a 1080Ti at 720p.

the more RT there is,the worse it does https://www.pcgameshardware.de/Radeon-RX-6800-XT-Grafikkarte-276951/Tests/Benchmark-Release-Review-vs-RTX-3080-1361423/3/ scroll down. it's 2080S-2080Ti level in Control and Minecraft. It does well in Metro and SOTR which do one RT effect. AMD also crippled their RT considerably in Legion. https://www.purepc.pl/test-kart-graficznych-amd-radeon-rx-6800-vs-geforce-rtx-3070?page=0,17

Metro Exodus results are fantastic, keeps up with 3080 @4k

Great review as always , thank you @Hilbert Hagedoorn . Great to see AMD back in the game it does matches and fight the rtx 3080 and that in itself is great = competition is always a good thing for everyone. The only thing that it was a little bit of let down was 4k performance but it comes down to memory bandwith at that resolution , otherwise i'm proud of what AMD has done here , great card.

poor RT numbers and no DLSS alternative, sure it trades blows with 3080 in raw but the price difference is only $50

cucaulay malkin:

how much does that even matter ?
Their driver never got a proper fix for decades. The same should be happening with DX9/DX11 titles. AMD is smooth only for DX10/DX12/Vulkan API.

It's over priced. You pay for extra vram. That's the story. I would prefer less vram since I will never play 4K ultra settings or 4k DXR.

Apparently there is an issue with RT rendering in some games that might effect performance. https://twitter.com/KeithPlaysPC/status/1329066879445557251 Alex@Digital Foundry
Also seeing some interesting reports atm of AMD RT effects in the Boundary Demo and WDL missing aspects in the reflections. I wonder if that is a driver bug or something else. I think WDL is not working correctly on AMD RT HW at the moment. It is rendering RT reflections - but it is missing a lot of surfaces and objects in the reflections in comparison to how it should look. Not a good comparison point for RT performance ATM.

@1440p 3080 - 54fps / 6800xt - 52fps How is that 'poor'?

dude, they crippled the hell out of legion on amd https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EnCqs2WXEAcBLqt.png have a look for yourself https://www.purepc.pl/test-kart-graficznych-amd-radeon-rx-6800-xt-vs-geforce-rtx-3080?page=0,17 overall RT is same as 3070 but no dlss, which tbh,is make ort break for RT.even a 3080 can't do RT at 1440p without it. https://i.imgur.com/OcvcxHs.jpg
