Thanks for the review; this is going to be a fun read.

Great review, thank you! 🙂

prices will come down fast. Realistically the FreeSync ACER monitor we use today in this review, is 2560x1140 / 144 Hz / FreeSync. It's a TN, but at 499 EURO not a very expensive one. Shouldn't it be 1440?

Yeah, what page was that ? NVM found it, thanks.

Funny you're saying it comes with price premium. Sure, we have only limited selection to compare at the moment, but at least LG's ultrawide 34UM67 is actually even cheaper than 34UM65, which is equivalent in terms of specs, except that it doesn't support FreeSync

That price tag is very attractive!

Is there any visible difference, between anything over 80 Hz with FreeSync enabled? 120/144 Hz frequency was invented, because of shuttering, but with FreeSync/G Sync there is no shuttering, if I am not wrong.

the drivers are pritty nice no problems so far now need a new monitor to take full advantage lol

Well explained article. At CES 2015 was ASUS MG279Q (2560x1440 IPS 120 Hz) confirmed as Variable Refresh Monitor. If that means Freesync, i am droping Nvidia this year for sure.

Nvidia making everything proprietary and expensive is pushing me in AMD's direction I cant wait to see what the 390x can do with this.

This thing solves one of the biggest problems i had with PC gaming.Stuttering that occurs with vsync-on when my games drop below 60hz is just annoying as hell for me. Some games just can't be played at all. Will look forward to one of these surely when the prices go down a bit. Only thing that's kinda lame is that AMD card is needed atm and i don't like them that much. Hopefully NV will support it as well in the future
NVidia has G-Sync. That's what they want all of their users to buy into. That way you're locked into their hardware.

If/when Intel decides to support Adaptive Sync, G-sync is screwed. For a technology that makes such a minimal difference, nvidia really screwed themselves over by making g-sync proprietary. I'm just surprised AMD wasn't the first to release something like this, since they already had a very similar technology for their mobile GPUs for a long time.

This monitor has convinced me to take a serious look at AMD... The reason being, Nvidia's proprietary hardware, and the price premium for G-sync.. If the 390x can compete (actual verified performance) with the Titan X, then my choice will be clear...
So, am I right to assume that you're looking to replace your 2x 780Ti GPUs? Because if so: A. Why? Are you actually encountering performance problems? B. How do you not have enough money to get into G-sync? Also, I wouldn't expect the 390X to compete with Titan X. If they release a 395X, that might do it.

The PC perspective article talks about how the G-Sync module uses its on-board memory to buffer the two frames and remove ghosting. Freesync doesn't do this unless the monitor manufacturer specifically implements a timing controller that handles it. In the case of the BenQ XL2730Z, it has a anti-blur feature but it kicks freesync off. http://www.pcper.com/files/review/2015-03-19/ghost1.jpg The BenQ and the Swift have the exact same panel. Regardless it's pretty cool that AMD is pushing standards. Hopefully Nvidia adds support at some point so I can just buy a monitor and not worry about what GPU I have.

Well when u have more open standard it will give more responsibility to monitor makers so quality range is going to be wider than g-sync`s. I am eager to get Freesync monitor but I will wait one that has working ghosting reducer while VRR on. It is interesting to see how this tech will mature.

Yes.. Because I want to support a standard and not proprietary hardware added to a monitor (g-sync) that adds a pretty high premium price tag.. My other issue with g-sync monitors is that they almost all have only one connectivity option, display port. I typically run several pc's at the same time doing various tasks.. I also play my PS4 and Xbone on my pc monitor... I cant do that with a g-sync monitor.. What I want is a 27-28" 120-144hz 1440p variable refresh rate monitor that has display port, dvi and hdmi connectivity options... And so far I haven't found that with g-sync..
I'm looking for a 2560x1080p 144hz 1ms monitor. Whether it's free or g sync will probably determine what my next graphics card will be.

I noticed that all the graphs in this article were of the XB270HU (IPS G-Sync) monitor and not the XG270HU (TN Freesync) monitor. Why is that?
Yeah that is a typo from my side, I still need to redo the charts. It should read XG270HU.

So totally waiting for a freesync display that does 20hz. I can just imagine 30fps capped games being an annoyance.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/164/164033.jpg
On that note, I would not even play 30fps limited games. But I agree that 40Hz min is quite low as too many games have sections where fps may drop below 40. 30Hz as minimum working refresh is target for me. Minimum upper refresh fro me is 144 and 1440p. This screen is almost perfect for me.
Yeah I'd rather not play 30fps limited either tbh. Now waiting for 10bit ips panel with 2xhz-120hz tho I will be fine with 75 upper limit too. I like em colors 😀

Are you going to review the XB270HU?
