@nizzen Which it is, vs other nvme ssds. Just picking one number (especially when it is the hardest one to get improvements on) to compare drives? Right. But that you wasted your money on an optane, already tells me a lot.

Can't wait to see the new batch of 2018 NVMe SSDs do battle. I have my Asus m.2 X 16 waiting for 4 SSDs. I figure that the next round likely will have the last real advantage before everything eventually goes PCIe gen 4 based.

you can't compare nvme ssd's to optane drives they are diferent technologies and do not think anyone here thinks that ssd's are better performers than optane the problem with optane is their pricing really and that they work only with specific hardware so far... on the other hand when you do not have any restrictions on this aspect(money) it becomes irrelevant really ...as for some people commenting about the 3 tittans well ... i do not think it is relevant on this topic and on the end of it if i had an almost unlimited budget for my pc i would propably do something like that for the fun of it if anything else :P

You should be able to compare them though as people are looking for fast storage and don't want the market to become confusing by adding a 3rd type of storage (HDD, SSD and Optane). Add on top a bunch of proprietary compatibility BS and you get the crappy reputation Optane has. Even if Optane is technically different it should be compatible enough that a noob can simply drop it into any m.2 PCIe slot and be impressed with the price : performance. The other Intel BS when it comes to PCIe lanes and raid restrictions for their new chipsets sealed the deal for me. For the first time since 939 I am building an AMD system for myself in early 2018, just need to see if the new Samsung SSDs materialize and are worth it.

well as things are i can not see em becoming mainstream not like ssd's have, i can not think of a single device in pc that was locked down like that and actually became a standard normally a bit later an open similar standard coming and burring it to the ground
