It was still Piledriver based, running at a very low clock.
No, it was enchanted Jaguar on xbox series x. On the rest it was normal jaguar. By the time it was really optimised, and that 8*1.7x GHz wasn't bad at all.

I am with you. PS5 will have the better exclusive games. Also seems everyone looks the tree and missing the forest, because most have in mind PCs performance in metrics like TFlops. Lets not forget the Xbox will use DX12.1 with all it's overheads etc, while Sony will be using the new low level API made with AMD. It won't be using generic DX12 or Vulkan. Thats something that made the less powerful PS4/Pro using Gnmx & Gnm API have some truly spectacular and beautiful games, that on PC require a far more powerful systems to come close. Look at Horizon Zero Dawn. I bet more than half of the GPUs would struggle to hit the same quality and FPS at 4K, it does with the pitiful 4.2Tflop GCN GPU on the PS4Pro. (is slower than the RX570 and GTX1060). And also need to factor is the 1,9Tflop AMD GPU based soundchip. If MS tries to create same quality sound re-purposing some of the GPU grunt power it would result to lesser GPU performance than the PS5!!!! But seems those things are getting lost in translation.....
Yeah PC games are really crippled by still using ancient APIs like DX11. When you see the draw calls per second performance difference between this and even DX12 it is sickening that we are still stuck with that old API just because most PC game engines were originally written using that. Way too much shitty Windows overhead on PC... and they just expect PC users to throw $$€€ at it in hardware to compensate.

Jaguar is built off bobcat, which was bulldozer without CMT. The only "enhancement" the apu had in the One X is clocked at 2.3 ghz instead of 1.7 ghz, still very low for scaling on AMD hardware.

As sickening as being able to play original XBox, XBox 360 and XBox One games with Series X? We already know PS5 has problems to offer backwards compatibility for PS4 games and the rest you can forget about. There are many things which are better on PC (and XBox because its based on Windows). And lower development costs when not having to work with proprietary non-standard APIs is a big one. "Look at Horizon Zero Dawn" Look at Forza Horizon 3/4 on original XBox which is less powerful than PS4. Not so much "shitty overhead" when someone puts money on optimization.

I somehow would have expected them to have the same hardware... But I guess by pure numbers m$ wins this time.

These consoles are really showing how much of a ripoff graphics cards are atm and most other hardware for that matter, or Microsoft and Sony will be taking a huge loss on each console sold you can argue that they buy in bulk and its all integrated which lowers the price but to me it still doesn't add up its about 570$cad for a 5700xt and i doubt this entire console will cost much more than 600$cad. GPU prices especially need to come way down.

Who said to you PS5 isn't backwards compatible? The guy said that AMD is working by testing every single game. Already the top 100 PS4 games are guaranteed to run and they will continue testing all the games until release and beyond. That's what he said. Stop spinning their own words.

Nvidia better make competitive priving on its next generation otherwise people will go for console without hesitations (wishful thinking)
Wouldn't count on that, though if nvidia will continue their price gauge, i'll game on XBX.

^^^One thing Nvida are doing brilliantly are pushing people to buy consoles. Lol

Not sure why ppl whine about storage. there is a difference between a "normal" consumer, and ppl like us. at some point you have to find a size that is enough for the unit, but also doesnt cost you money just so "5" ppl are happy. they most likely looked at what the majority (+80%) of ppl are using on their ps4. i work in a (gov) retail store and in the past 2y, ONE "customer" i talked to, would have needed a bigger drive. and the PS WILL be backwards compatible, not sure why this is still being denied by some as fact.

Every consumer will notice when they run out of space. Which will happen, and it will happen quickly. Games are only going to get bigger, typical size for a AAA game is nigh on 100 GB currently. Nearly every console player i know has an external USB HDD attached to their ps4 or xb1. If they ran out of 1tb before, 825gb isn't going to last nearly as long. I suspect that's why Sony was quick to say storage will be expandable once they start approving specific SSD's. I wouldn't be surprised if, after the PS5 launches and those SSD's come out, there will be models sold with them preinstalled.

Xbox One X had a pretty good setup, the CPU was nice too. Yea, it was slower than "it should be" (compared to cpus) but definetly wasn't bad or a bottleneck.
Both the PS4 and X1 were unbalanced systems. The CPUs were weak compared to what the GPUs could do. Games didn't get much more "dynamic" this past generation compared to PS360 games because the jaguar cores were too busy with just setting up the graphics and handling I/O, etc. Remember how early PS360 ports to the PS4 and X1 didn't perform all that much better?

^^^I have 2 external USB 3.0 HDDs i use with the XBX, but i don't have any for the PS4 because i steered clear of going digital on Sony platforms after going fully digital on the PS3 and Sony then dumping it, so storage wise on the new consoles nothing will really change that much for me as i will just move the HDD to the XS, and contimue to stick to the few physical retail games this interest me on the PS5, with almost the majority being PSVR 2....and GOW II. 😉

Hi there Most of people who I know and I'm part of few forums and I'm part of few Discord groups (racing games) they're not using external HDD at all, I have in my PS4 Pro still stock HDD and no issues with running out of the space and have installed I think 20 games but still I mostly play GT Sports or replaying some games etc I would assume every NVMe will work on PS5 but still I would rather wait on PS5 Pro Hope this helps Thanks, Jura
You also are a PC gamer. Console players who only play on console easily run out of space. If all you play is racing games that makes sense.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/220/220626.jpg
Nope, doesn't help.

@K.S. it nowhere says 4K@120. 1080p will be at up to 120, as VRR will not require "steady" fps. @k3wld00d1207 i got a 2080s that does 2.1 out of the box, nothing tweaked but vram. smaller chips usually do better on clocks, so thats not impossible, or the fact that they dont say "constant/indefinite". its a max boost clock like on any other gpu/cpu when limits arent reached.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/61/61283.jpg
where did the 3.66ghz come from? it's 3.60Ghz
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/242/242134.jpg
@K.S. yeah, probably someone preparing that, didnt know about hw/specs 🙄 see it every day at work with gimped signs on the product

PS5 = 36CU XSX = 52CU. PS5 gpu clock at 2.3ghz is misleading. No gpu will run at 2.3ghz core clock not even on water.
How so? My 5700 XT will boost up to 2.1 ghz.

Can't really make generalizations like this without any proof. I know so far 1tb on my One X has been more than enough space considering not everyone keeps all their games installed. Same could be said for PCs as well, most people probably don't keep all their games installed.
