Better late than never. Sony are hilarious with their ultra slow blu-ray player that takes 30 seconds to three minutes to load anything. Demons' Souls was among the worst, 1-2 minute load times from the disc, the only way to make the load times tolerable was to copy my disc to my HDD (7200RPM Momentus Gforce) which lowered it to about 30 seconds. But as a result of using custom firmware to do that I was denied from using PSN on that PS3 (my main and only non-overheating PS3) which in turn ended up denying me from not only playing online but from using DLC I had purchased. Some of the DLC has super dirtbag DRM, after a set period of time (1 week to a month) of not connecting to the internet it automatically becomes disabled. Sony are the Japanese Apple, I never felt like I owned my damn PS3, it has always felt like a rental. They even sent threatening emails to everyone using custom firmware, they found out since at all times (whether or not you connect to the PSN) it sends info to Sony like spyware, so long as it has an active internet connection. Thanks for robbing me of what I already paid for Sony, all because I wanted load times faster than 2 minutes and to not have to go through the hassle of switching discs.

Dont blame sony, its the risk you took. you should have known they would ban your account from PSN when using a custom firmware in the first place.

My account wasn't banned, anyone not using official firmware merely can't use the PSN (or rather couldn't, ha). I was aware of that, what I wasn't expecting was most my DLC requiring being reactivated every week to month. That's not a "risk I took" that's dirtbag DRM designed for the sole purpose of screwing over customers and nothing more. Maybe you shouldn't talk about what you have no idea about. To this day that DRM has served no other purpose but to screw over customers, previously there was no way to pirate such content and now that it is possible that DRM doesn't do anything to stop it anyway. Good job Sony.

Yes but from their pov its the custom firmware that will allow you to play games for free.

What does that have to do with the timed DRM on DLC that was not piratable? Nothing.

That's why I never buy anything from Sony, I despise that company!

... Either you're not reading or just trying to aggravate. The firmware version had nothing to do with it, the DRM disables your DLC so long as you don't reactivate it constantly. So someone without an internet connection for a period as short as week could lose their DLC. Such DRM was never mentioned anywhere, neither by Sony nor any publishers, most people aren't even aware of it.

Maybe Sony should learn to be more consumer friendly...

Alright, let's be honest with our selves. A lot of media and tech news sites are talking about this like it's MEGA NEWS or something, and giving it too much attention than it requires. Some of you may think that this LV0 (and the previous LV2 USB exploit) will unleash a horde of piracy movement on the system [ which I somehow agree with that ] . However no one recalls that the XBOX360 has been hacked years ago, some crackers even call the 360's security system a joke which in fact it is. Just guess what you can do with your 360, DVD drive CFW, Xcuter, Xkey, Glitch, JTAG. You can do a lot to your 360 when piracy matters, yet every one is bashing about the PS3 security. It is apparent that the 360's scene represents piracy at its full glory. I own 3 XBOX360s (one is flashed, one is JTAG'ed and the other has the Glitch chip installed in ) and 3 PS3s (the 3 of them have CFWs) and I've done all the soft/hard-modding myself [ just for testing purposes ], in fact I don't even remember if I spent 10 minutes playing with those. Sony is battling piracy releasing firmware updates that disable exploits when discovered. That's a strategic move to earn the trust of 3d party Devs, Microsoft on the other hand are doing less to nothing to protect their system INTENTIONALLY, why? Because they know in some emerging markets where people cannot afford buying games, their console will sell like a piece of cake for that facilitates obtaining free copies via P2P or any other source.
