I need more than this article too. I pretty much agree with evasiondutch. I would have loved to have bought one of these when the final release came around.

Yea exactly, kickstarter project iirc, they should be forced to refund every penny donated
Agreed, they certainly have more than enough to refund backers that don't want to get dumped on like this.

Minecraft creator has scrapped his Rift minecraft project because of this too
There was no project. He was in talk with the owner. He just scrapped the talk which is normal since the ownership changed. I see the facebook bandwagon hate is still strong. People who think facebook is more evil than Google or Microsoft are kind of funny imo.

I'm hoping GabeN and his Valve army will sweep in at the last minute and save us all from the evils of Suckyberg and his minions of data demons.
That would be cool if the one made by Sony for the PS4 would work on PC too.

This is a sad day indeed, John Carmack now works for Facebook.
Correction. Carmack is now laughing all the way to the bank.

Good for him, bad for the consumer.

Good for him, bad for the consumer.
He hasn't made a good game in years. Having now left id Software, it's difficult to see him making any games that will be anything like what's been before.

And that's the end of Oculus as we knew it.
why is it the end? I do not understand... Nothing changes except they got more money now then ever to make it a proper reality. Else it would have been on thin ice until they had sold LOADS

Im sorry but you're going to need a better source then a random twitter person. Mark told his investors the exact opposite. The Oculus team is going to be running independent of the company for the foreseeable future. I still don't like it but he basically said the exact opposite of that what that says.

Have you been living in a cave? You couldn't be more wrong about your statement..
How can it ever be anything other than a gimmick or a fad?

“I have no idea how to make sense of this at this point,” wrote a user named Richard Bettridge on the Oculus VR company website, where the announcement was posted. “I have no doubt no matter what this means, for sure they will use highly sophisticated metadata collection of users for profit.”

Hell no..
No I don't think its going to stay the way it is now, but at the same time I don't think facebook is going to come in and completely rewrite the entire thing. The Oculus people have been doing a good job so far and Mark wrote that they will stay as their own independent team. I'm sure at some point facebook might integrate social aspects into it, but until that happens I'll remain neutral on it. I canceled my DK2 order earlier today, but I'm not going to give up on the whole platform. Edit: stop breaking the page with giant images.

The press release by Luckey also reminds of Simpsons episode when an actor is being interviewed by the press (paraphrasing) "Well at first I fell in the love with the script, and the court case with the Internal Revenue guys sealed the deal!". except now it's: "Well at first when FB approached me about the deal I was sceptical, but the $2bill cheque sealed the deal!" Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

Every company has an agenda to make money. That is exact opposite what oculus boss says and from some random dude. I will believe it became something else once there is no oculus rift (even with different name who cares) out I will believe facebook did bad things. FB logo omg the world will end. And now guys tell me what metadata would it collect anyways "yo this dude scored sick headshots in cod!"? It's all the same valve collects your data, ms does, apple does, google does, blizzard does. Hell what does one more hurt you anyway... http://kotaku.com/oculus-addresses-some-of-the-internets-biggest-concern-1552003153/all just some palmer luckeys thoughts on the subject and answers for all them people.

Well, there will be one upside - facebook will f it, no one will have any interest, fb loses 2B.
And that in turn will hurt the normal working folk how is that an upside? Tell me O.o

Which of those companies actually knows where you spent last Friday's night? Which of those companies knows what religion are your friends. What kind of music you listen. If you plan to buy new house or your wife is pregnant? Have you had a bad day in work? Have you suddenly got bunch of new friends which are totally unrelated to your current ones? Don't worry, we have your back covered... Your Friendly NSA. Like it or not, having a lot of friends on FB is like having personal police squad which keeps track of you for you. And giving to that as capable device as OR, is not something one should take lightly without considerations of all possibilities which in case of FB are mostly grim. It's like this new Privacy "improvements", If you have your cellphone number on FB, it's not private by default and once you set it to private... Default security still allows you to be found by your number, so you have to change that too.
I know full well that everything I write or give facebook is data that can be acquired I thought that is clear to everyone using it. It has nothing to do with oculus rift again except it is now backed by facebook, that is why I compared it to those other things it ain't gonna get that data you described from where it is not. Any company you give that info will use it and will give it to the likes of NSA if asked...

One has to remember this is how business is done. Investors put in money in hopes to turn a profit. Company is bought for two billion...investors have now turned a profit. The backers have not been raped. They made money on their investment. It may be disappointing that the "ideal" or "majority approved of" buyer is not involved in the deal. But, which investor would cry saying I made money on my investment. If anyone backed them in hopes of actually getting the device is a moron business sense wise. All that should be focused on is the return on investment. Besides the deal is not all roses: 400 million in cash / 23.1 million Facebook shares / and an additional 300 million if certain milestones are met. Sounds like to me that the funding was drying up and the Rift team needed cash plain and simple. Plus, who wouldn't sell for that price? How long would it have taken them to sell two billion dollars worth of Rifts? Was the only sensible thing to do.
