Come on Mr. Hilbert, that sounds almost like baiting now
It's pretty crazy that even at this stage there are still basic functions that can be significantly improved at Kepler.
I always thought basics had been covered long time ago, and only game specific optimizations are left on the table.
Mantle will still have lower overhead; NV knows better than to make hard to keep promises.

"Now the golden question that comes to my mind is this: If Nvidia could do all this with a Soft update, why didn’t it do it before. The obvious answer to that question is slightly alarming."
indeed. I feel the time for the gaming industry to witness some significant changes is near.

Probably from their work with Microsoft and DX12.
Looking at the graphs, it is a progressive effort.

Anyone else thinking this is the driver that drops the legacy code for older GPUs?

I get the feeling that anycard can do 10% better now. They just holding it back to make it slightly faster than radeon cards but I remember AMd rave about their Mantle and in the end it was not as good as they said it should be.
I want to see how mantle vs directx compares in crossfire vs sli systems with lower end cpu's. I bet mantle will scale better.
will a gtx550 also benefit from this?

loving this if it's true. hopefully mantle will be able to play catchup so we can push the tech more

But then we have to take in to account the price of a 780/780ti vs 290/290x. Here in South Africa the 290/290x is cheaper than 780ti so for that it makes sense. i still stand by what i said about crossfire and lower end cpu bottleneck. That's why their testings suck. They use overly expensive cpu that only 5% can afford and make sure that cpu won't be a bottleneck and then show how bad mantle is.
I think mantle is still going to make AMd cards more worth the money for people that can't afford high end CPU's. I also get this feeling the reason mantle is so crappy now is because they knew Nvidia will try and pull something like this. maybe after this driver mantle will also see a boost in performance and then again we will see it win. That is the way how they both operate.

I think that they had this ace on them but didn't had to take it out untill they need it.

Good to hear, even better to see the competition. A shame it's not the same in the CPU department, where Intel clearly dominates.

The techreport Mantle article already showed that Nvidia's CPU driver overhead was significantly better than AMD's even prior to Mantle.

Pmsl 😀 😀 😀

I doubt that old sandy bridge are bottle-necked.
From first generation i7 nothing has drastically changed ( darstically like from c2q to i7 ).
This new drivers will change little.
Nvidia Fans will stay like that and Ati Fan they will say mantle is still better.
:) new story, old story.
At least the driver update has not to be developer supported, is something you get for free everywhere ( maybe i'll get even pcsx2 performance improvementes 🤓 )
And that's why they annonunced that old products are going to be erased from new drivers in short time!!!

Do you now clearly see how they manipulate the situation? Why Nvidia were waiting Mantle in order to improve their drivers? Such a difference is big deal that they had it hidden in the sleeve.
2 Companies only, no competition... we're the victims in the mercy of God. Additionally MS will release DX12... Forget Mantle. My next GPU after DX12 release, if NVIDIA will be fully supporting it, necessarily will go back to NVIDIA. Now for at least a year I'm more than good with my 7950 and the promised DX11.2 support.
