/weeps Do you think there's a chance that a GTX 980 Ti will follow this card in three months? That is what concerns me more. I know whatever card you buy, that something better will eventually come along but I was mildly annoyed when the GTX 780 Ti was released for the same price as I paid for my GTX 780 only three months earlier. I would not have been so bothered if it been 9 months or more though as I expect new high end cards each year or thereabouts. Is the GPU that the GTX 980 is using a full product or does it have some of its shader cores disabled like the original GTX 780/Titan vs. GTX 780 Ti/Titan Black?
I'd bet it'll happen shortly after AMD drops the 390 if it outperforms the 980.

I thought NDA lifted on Sept 18th today, or did they change it.

supposedly it was sept. 19 but nvidia changed it this week to 18 - again ONLY going by what a couple of people who have the cards to review them have said on twitter in recent days.

Echo this 100% - Don't want to make the same mistake again XD
Its a full chip, there should be no 'hidden' shaders in this one. the next chip up will have the Ti/GTX moniker.

A single 980 is matching my SLI setup, definite upgrade for me. I'll go SLI once I have the cash aswell.
Then it will be a massssssive upgrade on a single 670  Only problem now is, wait for 8gb variants or grab a 4gb

I accidentally reposted a link someone previously linked. Just google GTX 980 review. Looks like it's shaping up to be a nice card. Now to the price...

And TK, just because its faster than the former achitecture top chip, doesnt mean that it isnt designed as a midrange chip, hence the 204 chipcode, and not 200/210.
Being a "204" chip, means exactly squat aside from it not being the first chip based on Maxwell. By that line of thinking, GK110 was intended to be an entry-level GPU. Fact is, outside of NVidia, the GPU numbering means nothing. It has absolutely nothing to do with what market segment it was intended for.

The only fact is that he as well as everyone else here - we have no idea what will be coming. He's just being active-aggressive with his guesstimation of the next iteration being overly superior.

my 660gtx still going strong for my needs well excepted for Swtor which isnt my gpu fault, its the games engines lack of any optimiztion that and it a alpha build of the engine to begin with they gutted. I am interested in this "downsampling" they i think my next gpu wont be till there pascal gpu, or later as i still need to update my actual mb/cpu

Img doesnt work - but ive seen the pic before. (edit works now) The side air exit of the inno3d cooler would fit perfectly with my Cases VGA cooling tunnel. Just not sure how silent that one's gonna be..

If its anything like the 6870 Windforce card I had prior to jumping to my 670, it should be relatively quiet.. however, that small fan is concerning, as I've not known the 40mm fans to ever be "quiet" per se. They always have had some light whine or high pitched noice emanating from them.. hope that this is not the case with these.

Yawn.
I cant begin to tell you this is how I have felt about Nvidia since GTX 6XXX launch. The was the last time I was pleased with Nvidia. I still feel their gpus are too damn overpriced.

When you are the king of the hill, people will pay more. Simple as. There is no reason for Nvidia to charge less, especially for a new top end item. Intel is the same.. no reason for them to give a discount when you have people lining up to pay it. Apple as well. apple is the MOST notorious since their hardware isn't even close to cutting edge, yet you pay top dollar for it.. If you're not used to this by now, well..

imo no one here has a real reason to complain about, OK maybe a bit those who bought few days ago new 780 or 780Ti because they couldn't wait some more for 970/980. As always with release of new generation of high end GPU's we can expect healthy price drop on both sides, I mean NVidia with 770/780/780Ti and AMD's 290/290X, it's just a matter of days/weeks and some math, maybe 10%, maybe 15%, maybe even 20% for all mentioned GPU's from previous generation. For those with some old GPU stuff gaming at 1080p or 1440p and need for upgrade + don't care about higher power consumption GPU's of previous generation just grab some 780/780Ti/290/290X after price drop and you're good to go few more years. TDP is area where I'm mostly suprised by 970/980 and that means (I hope) a helluva nice OC + quiet even with stock NVidia leaf blower. I'll wait for an answer from AMD and then decide what to do. Expecting NVidia to polish/optimize drivers in next month or two so all of us can se how capable 970/980, also how high we can push them when it comes to extreme OC on air. I can wait, no need for rush. Just hope that later (two or three months from now) manufacturers won't infect 970/980 with ****ty Elpida VRAM chips and cut the fun with VRAM OC above 7000. Can we also expect some new NVidia Beta drivers tomorrow, Hillbert, anyone?
