Yes it's for those who don't know how many paste to put and follow tutoring on youtube on "wich is best way to put paste on CPU? polka dot, in cross, in triangle or in cute unicorn"... In the end it will end the same as usual: splated If it go on the side it is that you have put too much lol

@Glottiz/rl66 I would probably get it just for ease of application and no-mess, e.g. not spending 30min on clean up. if your running a loop, and do proper maintenance, you will take of the block at least 1x per year, and when i see how many rigs i build for others since 2xxx series, it might be something i will get.

Not everybody who will buy an AM5 system is a TIM application ninja. Its very easy for peeps on forums such as this to exhibit zero empathy for anybody who is new to PC building

wat has a company with decades of experience forgotten how to make a normal ihs ? wouldn't pay 8eur+shipping for a cheap piece of plastic.

This Noctua thingy supposed to stay there while cooler is mounted on top of the AM5 CPU. Guess thats why Noctua said its highly heat-resistant. I'm sure someone will make even better version for 3D printers and spread it all over the internet. But not sure how these 3D printed thingies would be heat-resistant. Anyone with 3D printer here? edit The other super-cheap and for sure even more heat-hesistant solution is to make a right pattern on the AM5 CPU using thin scalpel and two layers of Kapton tape. You can reuse that one multiple times on AM5 CPU. This would be 10 minutes job for me and anyone who ever used Kapton tape, to make a propper pattern.

Ahahaha better buy enough of it before it gets super-expensive after leaked rumors from Guru3D that it can be used on AM5 CPUs to make thermal compound protective patterns. Don't forget to buy enough of thin surgical scalpels because after thes "leak" becomes viral these are also going to be super expensive, same happened to the TPM modules for motherboards after first rumors that Win11 can't be used without it 😀 I'm 100% sure someone on Aliexpress and/or eBay will make a bussines making and selling these home made Kapton patterns naming it something like: Super Heat-Resistant Protective Thermalpaste Pattern for AM5 CPUs

So far none for PC building, at least until now. I have God knows how many rolls of Kapton tape, many different width, we're using these to protect heat sensitive electronic components like capacitors, all kinds of SMDs, plastic thingies ...and whatnot on printed circuit boards while doing some electronic repairs/projects. Very handy for many other things too and it looks miles better compared to cheap sticky tapes. OK, it's not so dirty cheap like sticky tapes but when one has enough of it for 5 lifes who cares 🙂 [youtube=nebU4SnNRDQ]

Am I missing something here? Why is everyone so critical over this? There are exposed components on the surface of the CPU package. We all know very well how much people disagree with how much thermal compound to use and the way to go about applying it. There is a non-zero chance that some of it will ooze over and potentially short something. This thin piece of plastic is a perfectly sensible, effective, and affordable way to ensure your CPU will be protected, and it's going to be completely covered up by your heatsink anyway so who cares what it looks like? Granted, I do understand it's stupid for the price, but if they ship it in the box with coolers then I think that'd be pretty cool. And this is coming from someone who thinks Noctua is overhyped.

Everyone in this thread who criticizes this take a picture of your CPU heatspreader, uncleaned, right now. I better not see a spec of TIM on the side of the heatsink.

That's not even the issue. It literally won't matter if you get paste there if its not an electrically conductive type of TIM. Noctua's own pastes aren't, so it's a solution where there is no problem.

And that's the point, no everybody will know this, it's nice that a thing exists that is optional, better to not buy than not be able to buy. Choice is good.

DerBauer is also working on a solution for the paste over spill problem with AM5. His looks more like a rubberized sheet though that fits and closes the cutouts. According to him the issue is that with AM5 there is a space between the substrate and the heat-spreader, which could allow thermal paste that runs of the sides of the heat-spreader after the cooler is installed to find its way underneath the heat-spreader and cause issues there.
