Nah...
Going back to the old start menu is such a step back. Why do the vocal majority have be the whiners who cant deal with change, even if its for the best.
You can still choose to use start screen if you like and its not "the old start menu back". Its new start menu, which combines the old start menu and the new start screen.

That isn't the meaning of 'debunked'... To debunk is to confirm or expose that something is false. So the article should read that 2 rumours have now been confirmed, or confirmed as true. Just thought I'd say something. 🙂

This is great, thanks MS!

I wouldn't call that old start menu.

How come this mentality seems to only get applied to MS. No one ever says this about Ubi/EA etc games, trash release after release and people keep pre-ordering while telling themselves 'Maybe they got it right this time'.:bang:
People can put up with (or live without) a game much easier than a windows operating system.

I love how you think your opinion is fact and then blame everyone else for wanting something that you don't. Some of us don't like metro. I also use W7 differently than most, for example I don't combine taskbar buttons.

wow for free, thats something i never would have guessed

This way they do not have to support W8/8.1. They can avoid Windows Vista situation. Because W8.1 market share is not that big, I think this makes sense.

The fact that Microsoft are offering Windows 9 as a free update seems to suggest to me that it isn't going to be hugely different from Windows 8.1. Why even bother marketing it as a new operating system...why not just call it Windows 8.2 or Windows 8 Service Pack 2? Is there really any need to release a new version of Windows every 2-3 years anyway? Usually that comes with its share of compatibility issues, particularly with older software that probably isn't being updated any more not to mention some games not working properly (anyone who has played any of Techland's older games can tell of upside-down, mirrored black & white loading screens and videos on Windows 8, something that was never ever fixed!!!).

Explain to me how the Start screen was a change for the "best" for desktop users because I would really love to know? lol The garish Start Screen at release was jarring sitting alongside the desktop with different and extremely basic apps. Why have two versions of Internet Explorer and Mail for example, one running full screen and the other in a window with far more functionality and features. Even Apple aren't stupid enough to combine their iOS tablet/phone operating system with Mac OSX. That is what Microsoft attempted to do with Windows 8 and they failed because desktop users have no need for a touchscreen interface - that is exactly what the Start Screen is - on a monitor that lacks a touchscreen! :bang: I installed Start8 within a week of installing Windows 8 and since then have NEVER used anything from the Start Screen. In fact, my PC boots to the desktop. Everything I need is available from the desktop where it should be on a non-touchscreen platform.

At the rate MS are releasing a new windows OS we will be getting a season pass for each version now instead of a service pack. lol

I prefer the Start Screen, I like my desktop without any shortcuts on it. This is my Start Screen, I have removed all the the default apps. http://abload.de/thumb/untitled-1pmced.jpg If I need anything else I just start to type it's name on the Start Screen and it shows up.

Because it really is windows 8.2 and nothing more than damage control by shaking off the windows 8 name. To be honest they really have no choice at this point and i hope they learned this painful lesson which is "no one gives a **** about touchscreens/metro when chillin at their desk"

Because something you apparently can't be able to comprehend is just because you like it doesn't mean it's best for everyone, in fact i'm starting to believe that if you like something, it must not be for the best.

Oh ffs. Metro is ok, but on a touch screen. I tried to fix a friend's laptop with Win8 and i was minutes away from snapping the damn thing in two.

As a Windows 8.1 user I don't mind the start screen on my tablet because that was what it was made for. However on my desktop I prefer the start menu because I have so much stuff installed that it would clutter up the start screen. I think the free upgrade to windows 9 for 8.1 users is awesome.

The majority of us r still on Win 7, M$ knows this and we still have to buy Win 8 or 9 either way. M$ loses sweet fa giving this away free to Win 8 users.

I was such a big hater of windows 8 when I first used it but honestly I love it now 8.1 fixed the real issues and now that I'm use to I find windows 7 a real chore to use and it feels really dated. Awesome that we get a free upgrade to 9 as well.

That is your own fault really. you could have bought windows 8 really cheap. trying to blame microsoft for this sounds really silly.

I'm still not believing anything free is coming from MS.
