Microsoft's fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. Their press release will be on July 20th. What may be announced Friday is a precursor to this. They did not hit the mark they were hoping for is what it sounds like.

Let's just hope they're not from QA again.

I can't believe it! A company so much devoted to the poor people around the world (hundreds of donations to charities, hospitals, orphanages....each year)... And now, all of a sudden, thousands of people will be made jobless, with their children and other dependents... Poor BigBadBilll must have been starving for the last couple of years when he was forced to make such a dramatic move...

Why do you always bring up Bill Gates? He retired a long time ago.

Wasn't there a story (or a fact?) about win10 being the last iteration of windows? and microsoft building on top of this for the future? what is their business plan from now on? Microsoft Office and professional only? I wonder

Perhaps they are furthering their policy of not testing anything before release which needs less staff. But maybe, just maybe, they will realise where they need to make some effort at last which might prevent further layoffs. Haha, what am I on.

So...they are concerned about Amazon, and have just given them some of the best trained staff in the tech industry...because that's where I would go.

This is why you need to stick to Windows 11 £100 Windows 12 £100 Windows 13 £100. You can't just rely on a free/cheap £10 OS forever! Go back to the oldskool way or we might lose our decades old computing buddy. I spend £2000 a year on my PC do you know how many chips I had to bench to get a 1.25v one! so I do not mind £100 every 2 years for a full review and restart of all OS coding.

People, it's a reorganization. That doesn't mean they are losing money and are forced to get rid of staff. The industry is changing and they are focusing their resources on other areas.
Citation.

Bill Gates isn't the one making these decisions. He's not the one actually running Microsoft and hasn't been for quite a few years now.
Why do you always bring up Bill Gates? He retired a long time ago.
Bill Gates returned to Microsoft part time a while back. He's a technology adviser now.
Since naming Satya Nadella as CEO, Bill Gates spends a third of his time working at Microsoft, he told Vanity Fair's Bethany McLean. That's a surprisingly big chunk of time and more than most people realize. When Nadella became CEO, Gates gave up the Microsoft chairman job and took on the vague title of "Founder and Technology Advisor." That made it sound like he was practically dusting his hands of Microsoft.

Extremely doubtful that bill gates has coded anything in quite some time, at least anything that has been released by microsoft. I would wager that bill gates has not coded for microsoft/windows since 2000, if not before.

Wrongly stubborn lol.

Feb 2013 Quote: "Gates left his job as Microsoft CEO years ago to devote himself full-time to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, but he still finds time to dabble in programming. When asked if he still codes, Gates said he doesn't as much as he'd like, but he occasionally dashes off some C, C# and BASIC. He's also disappointed that new languages haven't made more progress in simplifying programming."
I'm not sure if this was about him no longer making the decisions within microsoft, or not coding. Of which, if the coding portion is the case, i did specifically state: "at least anything that has been released by microsoft. I would wager that bill gates has not coded for microsoft/windows since 2000, if not before."

I think MS is trying to go full-service hence next step probably would be abolishing the Win desktop OS, hence no WinXI. Place your bets!

"doesn't control it anymore...", "gave up long time ago" etc.. The same "info" (or very similar to that) had been circulating about Beelzebub and his companions... But the evil never sleeps, believe me. And it's easier to work "behind the curtain"... Remember Sauron? @nhlkoho, @Mufflore - this is a citation, too: "As a result, and as is rumored right now, thousands of jobs will be cut, reports Bloomberg based on insiders information"
