Microsoft skips Windows 9, its now Windows 10

Microsoft decide to call it Windows 10, and people on here seen to think it's the end of the world lol. How exactly is it a fail, OMG they skipped 9, big friggin' deal! 😀 Seriously, they could call it Windows 11 if they wanted, as in two Xbox One's (1 with 1) and guess what? It would still work exactly the same.

People just love complaining for the sake of complaining these days.

now that they have taken away what I liked of previous windows (dreamscenes on w7, aero style on w8) I don't think this one is going to disappoint me

I liked that too, I also liked Vista, it was really ok after SP2, but Vista was seriously using too much machine power for itself. Not much of an issue on fat gaming machines, but for everyday business machines, Vista was a hog. That they killed off Aero in favor of the flat look, leaves me indifferent. I can live with both.

So first they went from 360 to One and now it's 10 after 8.

I like the improvements they made to command prompt. being able to copy past made easier. also are windows back to being transparent? watching some of the vids it looks that way. but then some apps are not.

It looks like Windows has a team which cares about attention to detail, finally! I think this will be the best version of Windows yet .. way better than Windows 7 was in its time. Of course they can manage to F it up but I'll be optimistic for now :P I think you're referring to the task view for transparency? The theme will be changed for sure, I don't think they will keep 8's half baked theme as it is for RTM. We should see it by the time they're ready to show off the consumer oriented features.

i'm downloading do i still need to join insider programme? do we have any driver support yet? thanks. *i enjoyed win8.1 preview.

It comes with GeForrce 340.52 installed so we might be able to install Windows 8 drivers. I checked Windows Update but there were no new drivers avalable.

Which is why they should just switch to a biannual release cycle and a different naming scheme. People are expecting huge changes from OS upgrades, not going to happen anymore.

I for one, welcome any new windows software. More performance, more features, more optimization. Good for old hardware, good for new hardware. I'm running an old Athlon 4800+ with overclocked DDR2 and a flashed HD 3850 in my room. The idea that it can still run new games is kinda mind-boggling and keeps my faith in desktops. All ye plebians... worship the AsrockAspire.

Oh, I can find more things to complain about but one thing at a time. For example, I don't like them putting those Metro tiles on the right-hand side of the Start menu.

I just got to check it out a bit and they can be removed for a less cluttered SM 🤓.

I honestly don't understand the complaints.. What they showed us was a very early build, which was stated several times.. Microsoft is listening to its customers.. I applaud them for reaching out. I look forward in seeing how Windows 10 develops.

Neither do I really. Liking Windows 8.1 due to it being snappier then Windows 7 and if they're making the interface better that's just adding the icing on the cake for me tbh. As long as stuff remains logical aka not like Apple. An example: - Right clicking, or any other method to "safely" remove a USB drive from the PC Linux: Unmount Windows: "safely" remove the USB disk, hinting towards just removing it from the PC Apple: Drag it into the trash can... f*** all logic. My brain would never figure this out without help or reading a help file or searching google. Logically my brain would figure "delete the contents of my USB stick". It's little stuff like this OVER and OVER that makes me hate working on Apple devices. Linux, even if I'm no adapt at it, it remains logical. I don't mind learning new stuff as long as it makes sense.

Make a suggestion on the feedback forum to allow it to be on the other side with an option. Maybe get a response, probably not, will be flooded with comparability issues.
