I'm looking forward to Windows 10.. I feel like it will be what 8 should have been, will be like 7, what Vista should have been, will be like...

Why ?
Just the name... 10. Because 10 comes after 8. I know.. I know.. it's silly.. but it's seriously got me laughing.

You can replace "Windows 7" with "Windows XP" and ask the same question. You're obviously not looking for an answer.
Your logic would imply that Windows XP = Windows 7 ,sorry but theres quite a significant difference between them.

Instead of auto-detecting when a keyboard is disconnected, the switching should be a user initiated command prior to disconnecting the keyboard. That way nothing funky happens when switching out keyboards.
Agreed, hopefully this will be an option as-well, similar to "what does your laptop do when you close the screen".
More rubbish from the worlds biggest Bull SH*TERS! How much moaning and complaining will commence when it's released! Sticking to W7, until I am required to change!
There shouldn't be much moaning and complaining on Windows 10 as 8, aside from some of the windows 8 users on this forum who seem to think that choice is bad and we should all abide by the start screen and forget about everything else....

I like what I've seen so far, looking forward to its release.

Well watching the video, nothing does happen when you disconnect the keyboard other than a small popup asking if you want to change to touch mode If you don't accept the change, it stays in normal desktop mode
Did not know that. Thank you.

Is there a reason behind the name skip?
Probably they want to get as distant as it gets from Windows 8...

I just find windows irrelevant in todays changing world
Windows is still relevant even in a changing world as Linux wont work for every one because people do different things with their computer. There gonna be times where one will need to use windows to get the job done, or times where one have a choice of using windows or a linux distro. I have used linux distro countless times but I always roll back to windows because of gaming and other stuff I do with my computer that req me to be in windows. Linux usually last 3-4 days on my computer before I stop using it all together and go back to windows.

Watching the video of the demo, why would MS assign an employee who's been working on their Mobile development to be responsible for the PC development? This worries me since really, why wouldn't you assign someone who was a large part of past OS development?

They could have easily fixed fullscreen metro apps and add customized windows size button + add that kinda like 3d aero preview button in win 8.1.1.. Guess they wanted win10 to look that much more "appealing", well I will upgrade my 8.1 non the less, but still kinda stupid.

No bloody need to skip 9. If you're not going to number your OS sequentially like you did since 7 then pick a new paradigm. Skip numbers just for the sake of skipping numbers? Really? FAIL! But Windows 8 has so much stink coming off it that it stunk up the number next to it, so now 9 is nearly as unusable as 8 is. So the genius at Microsoft said "what is there besides 9? Well, 10 isn't 9. Let's use 10." Morons. Multi-billion dollar company and that's the best you can do? Really? I'd like to see the process that went into renumbering the OS. How about a word? Or just stick with sequential numbering. Apple's X-series desktop OS naming was based on simple sequential numbering starting with Roman Numberal X for 10, then a decimal, then an arabic number sequtialy increasing with each new release. Simple enough. For flavor they added nicknames based on cats. Sequential numbering just makes sense and everyone loves cats. Win. Android's naming is also based on sequential numbering with nicknames based on candy and sweet treats. Who doesn't like that? Ubuntu follows a regular six month release scheduled with the release naming formatted as Y:MM (10.4 referring to April 2010). Because logic. Windows naming, on the other hand, is based on: Simple version numbering (1.0, 20. 3.0, 3.1, 3.11) or the last two digits in a year (98, 98) or all four digits in a year (2000).... except when it's a two-letter nonsense phrase (NT, XP, ME, RT)... or it's a single number (7, 8, 10) and now it's skipping 9 for no reason at all. Does this make sense to you?
No one here complained that Nvidia when from the GTX 700 series to the GTX 900 series. Who cares if they skip a number

After watching the presentation I must say it does look like this is a serious step in the right direction.

There really is no method to MS's naming of Windows versions. We had Win1.0, 2.0, 3.0 95, 98, 98SE, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8... Technically, Vista should have been Windows 9 had they followed the original numbering scheme and we'd be looking at the preview of Windows 12 being released.

“It was a name that resonated best for what we will deliver,” Broken promises and poor commitment? At least they oped out of calling it "Windows X"
data/avatar/default/avatar07.webp
Regarding the name change, I think everyone here overlooked the simplest reason for skipping 9. It would seem that Microsoft is trying to get past the jinx that has plagued Windows from the outset. Generally speaking it has always been the odd numbered OS's that has performed well on the market (95, 98SE, WinXP, Win7 and presumably Win8.1). The even numbered OS's have always tanked (98, Vista, Win8) requiring Microsoft to release a quick follow-up at minimum. I think MS wants the even numbered OS's to do well for a change. On the other hand....naaaaaaa! LOL

Well, when Microsoft called Windows 6.1 "Windows 7", they said that the name was chosen because it was the 7th Windows big release. Well: Windows 1.0 Windows 2.x Windows 3.x Windows 4.x(NT4, 95, 98, Me) Windows 5.x(2000,XP) Windows 6.x(Vista, 7, 8, 8.1) I think it cares logic as the new Windows name, so there is no surprise.

I hope the major VM software vendors are ready for Win10 :P

now that they have taken away what I liked of previous windows (dreamscenes on w7, aero style on w8) I don't think this one is going to disappoint me

I like the improvements they made to command prompt. being able to copy past made easier. also are windows back to being transparent? watching some of the vids it looks that way. but then some apps are not.

Of course there is
Is there a reason behind the name skip?
Let me put it this way... Does your Windows 7 sound a bit old now?
