Is there a reason behind the name skip?
Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President for the Operating System Group, said that the new release represented such a shift in Microsoft's approach to delivering Windows and in what Windows will be—able to span everything from an Internet-of-Things gizmo to a phone to a tablet to a PC to a server—that calling it Windows 9 wouldn't be big enough to capture the differences. Given the rest of the company's One-themed branding (Xbox One, OneDrive, OneNote, and such), Myerson said that calling the new OS Windows One was logical—but it turns out that a guy called Bill Gates already did that back in the 1980s. So the company went for Windows 10 instead. Apple did the same thing with its OS more than a decade ago and has stayed there ever since. Microsoft's new brand opens the door to both major desktop operating systems being version ten... forever.

Will there be Nvidia and AMD drivers made specifically for Windows 10? Are there any changes to the driver model?

I'm seeing zero reason to upgrade from 8.1. Come on Microsoft, if you expect me to pay for your OS show me something good. Although if rumors are true, it could be free

So this is just same as NV changing from 800 to 900 series branding? Whatever , as long as it's free 😀
Nvidia did this to avoid confusion with the long standing mobile 800 series. This is just microsolf selling us bull***t again.

The upgrade is free.
I'll believe it when they officially confirm it.

We can test it tomorrow onwards and it will be updated every now and then too .. can't wait for it to arrive so we can leave 8's stink behind along with the obnoxious flaming it used to cause.

Well I dont like that new start menu one bit, still hope its optional though, will stick with metro win8 look. Even this new win8 metro look is kinda meh, them extra folders on the left side are kinda pointless :P,. I already have explorer (taskbar) and my documents on desktop, dont really need extra in that metro start on top of it all.

Windows 10..hmm all the same in the end. Been using their copy paste of start8 since windows 8 launch.

I guess built-in calculator will be useless. I wonder what name they come up with for next Forza.
At least they took start8 and put it in windows 10. I'd not be surprised if stardock has something to say about it. Looks the exact same. About Forza....Different steering wheel covers! Collect em all!

Windows 10 looks like a very ambitious project. Would explain why they are only "looking" at a release date before the end of 2015. Making statements like windows is out of touch with today without backing it up adds up to what is referred to as nothing but fluff, ie. filler. Instead of auto-detecting when a keyboard is disconnected, the switching should be a user initiated command prior to disconnecting the keyboard. That way nothing funky happens when switching out keyboards.

What benefit does start8 have over classic-shell? (I seriously don't know)
A lot, fully customizable streamlined win 7 superbar that does exactly what Microsoft claims windows 10 does. You can use Metro tiles just like this, and change size etc. And it's done it since windows 8 day one.

upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 9 wouldnt have been much, but 7->10, woah 3 full generations of OS upgrade!

Nobody has expected the Spanish Inquisition! But seriously, these look like some great news. And there's a feature I've been waiting for - windowed WinRT (aka Metro) apps. This means developers will be able to easily (and cheaply) make good looking, fast-performing apps, which can be at low cost ported to Windows phones and tablets. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Sounds good, really good. I already like the fact that I share a lot of stuff between my desktop and nokia lumia phone trough windows 8.1, but this will bring that interconectivity to another level.

As long as old games keep working (same as they did on W7 and W8.1) it should be alright.

This news nearly killed me from laughter.

is this actually going to provide anything for Windows 7 users who have no interest in tiles and use android phones and tables? Reading that its all about integrating Windows devices into one OS and bringing back the classic start menu which i already have.

Seriously? It's game-changing! As a developer of Windows apps, I can tell you that it will change the market. Developers will be able to share a lot of code between desktop and mobile apps, and you'll be able to buy (or get free) more and more apps for one device, that will work on another one without any extra cost, and they will share the settings and notifications pipeline. This demo made me consider getting a Windows-powered phone. Well, much of that is already possible, but seriously? Does anyone think I might convince a significant number of people to use full-screen "metro" apps? In Windows 10 they'll be running as full screen or windowed, so basically they'll work just like any other program, but faster and prettier.

You can replace "Windows 7" with "Windows XP" and ask the same question. You're obviously not looking for an answer.
