It's honestly trash on my oddysey G7. Glad i don't have to use it . I tried new Halo and it enabled HDR by default , colors are washed out and its to bright , i don't even found slider/option to disable it . Impossible to play enabled.

I was gonna ask sb about hdr on g7,since it's a great monitor and the review says hdr on it is pretty good maybe it's the game ? how about other games ? I heard fc5 has a great hdrr implementation.Did you try it ? we're talking the va g7,not the ips one ?

You need to oversaturate and adjust brightness/contrast to compensate, once you got it set to look as good as you got SDR on you desktop while HDR is enabled you shuold be set. No idea if you can do so with that new Halo game, need to set ingame max nit to 1K.

I'm on Win 11, with a G7 27'' and a MSI Gaming X Trio 3090 RTX HDR works flawlessly with Halo and Forza Horizon 5. Auto HDR works fine with Civ VI and other games. What firmware has yours? Has configured your screen corretly? What graphic card you own?

I have the 32" oddysey G7 VA and i think the only game which i allow HDR is Doom Eternal. Switching it to 10bit instead of 8bit is pointless for me as i think most HDR content actually looks worse in my opinion but i'm still on Win 10 and of course haven't used Win 11's auto HDR feature.

As someone stated on TV "there too much white on TV screen" (someone that i don't remember her name, because she is stupid despite have been in Time frontpage) Once out of the original context it might fit there ๐Ÿ™‚ More on topic: Why let machine set video for you?

"certain picture editing tools may not display colors correctly on HDR monitors." HDR in gaming is a bit of a mess right now, but this doesn't have anything to do with Halo, Auto HDR, cheap HDR monitors, or gaming. This issue showed up in Photoshop months ago when Windows 11 was released, and in general users were advised to remain on a tested OS until Windows 11 was validated.

Just to balance out all the hate in this comment section i have zero problems with any games, photos, photo editing, Video, Video editing or streaming on my setup with HDR or auto hdr.

Honestly I was really disappointed in HDR. A few games looked spectacular with it. Shadow of Tomb Raider was wow. Others looked insanely washed out/overbright/ and having to toggle it on and off per game was not worth it.

Can I be "that guy" who will tell you that basically any non-OLED display is trash for HDR gaming?

Yeah... as soon as LG Display starts mass producing cheaper 27" about size OLED displays we will then finally get decent HDR on monitors. Right now we are still stuck with manufacturers flogging us way overpriced ancient LCD technology which has been marketed to death and people fooled into buying with gimmickry like 240Hz and other such snake oil.

Absolutely. It was a VA 32:9 panel. I didnt buy it for HDR but still was very disappointed.

I can only support the opinion of "that guy" ๐Ÿ˜‰ i had an good LG LCD 4K HDR Capable TV hooked up to my pc for 2 years and every HDR game looked really bad and i never was able to calibrate it to look right. And as soon that i switched to an OLED TV i saw perfect HDR in every capable game. Maybe the good Mini LED Monitors/TVยดs can match it somewhat but i doubt it.
Sadly they're too large for folk like me. Bring on the 35/40" versions without gimped specs to save me from tennisneckitus.

The more time passes, the more I think Microsoft should call this product Pandora. Very often, when a computer boots up in Pandora, messes something. See, your computer stability goes out the Window. /j

HDR had always been trash technology. Tried it on dozens screens and in most cases the result image was always worse than SDR. I also do not understand these HDR1000+ displays. I have 43 inch HDR1000 display and mostly I have brigthness level at 0 - 15. It might be good in very bright environments though, but standard SDR display with 350 nits is enough for 99% users

To get Perfect HDR you need 10Bit enabled, HDR without 10Bit is not real HDR, the standard demands 10Bit minimum

No idea what monitors you used or what hardware, but to get perfect HDR you need windows display settings configured to 10Bit mode I been using HDR since 2016, first I had OLED C6p as my monitor and in 2019 i got OLED C9 as my monitor. HDR looks insane, but my OLED has 10Bit and 12Bit 4:4:4 support I even capture video games in HDR and it play back fine. HDR is the best display technology of this era, the issue is people with left hands and greedy monitor manufacturers that sell trash labeled as HDR. If you use LCD display and not OLED, the minimum for good HDR is 1000Nits, also 10Bit native panel, 8Bit+dithering like on some cheap monitors wont work. So before you buy do some research, if some display allows to turn on HDR doesn't mean its real HDR

You get used fast, as I said been on oled from 2016, 55inch, first looks too large then you not notice it and then you see someones 35inch monitor and asks him "what the F is that tiny thing" LG OLED had 48inch and this year they coming with 42inch model, might be perfect for you if you scared to take a chance. Ill be upgrading this year for the new EVO panel and i think ill stay with 55inch, im afraid 48inch will be too small since i got used to such size already

I know you need 10bit for proper HDR but it's still confusing as HDR looks and works amazing in a few games i play like Doom Eternal and Shadow of the Tomb Raider but for other games i can't get it looking good at all. This can't be down to the monitor alone, this must just be the games themselves not liking HDR or the set up. Makes no sense that it's popping with colours in those working games but makes other games look Really washed out and horrible.

Which are these games? Some games like RDR2 have fake HDR and look worse, thats just the lazy devs MS games all have good HDR support and so is Sony games [I mean the PC editions]
