Ide imagin intel will keep 6 and 8 cores exclusive to 2011 socket to really milk the people willing to buy them.

I am sure later in the year there will be a 6 and maybe even an 8 core version. give it a 6770k or 6790k. And is it just me or does it seem like its always the chinese who are leaking stuff out onto the interwebs?
Because most tech companies have production line and what not in China.

Idk, i still think they should've just skipped Broadwell and went straight to Skylake. Even this dosnt look so impressive i wonder who wants Broadwell chip with lower clocks and less L3 than Haswell.

Yet another quad core... what a disappointment!
Why not? Games are not using more than 4 cores anyway (i5 being enough for gaming this days). Higher per-core performance, higher core clock and more efficient cores it should beat any previous generation 6 cores. For enthusiasts there is always 'Extreme' variant.

I wouldn't mind more cores, those would help a lot in encoding. I don't really see any real reason to upgrade. I'm definitely going to skip Skylake. I also want to see how AMD's Zen turns out.

A 6 core version of the 6700k would be nice special if it still stock clock of 4ghz

Some people want something to last, if I buy a new CPU i want it to last as long as this 2600k has/will.
Exactly. I remember buying a Q6600 when most of my friends bought the dual core version. They raved on and on about how it was faster with their higher OC's by a small margin. 2 years later when the first games using multiple cores came out I was just lolling.

Times change, i dont think we'll see that big performance jump like Sandy for a long time. That was just amazing.

Ja ja its so amazingly magic it needs to have at least 500mhz higher OC to match Haswell, sometimes even more by AVX apps :P

Tj you are lucky you have a good chip, those first haswell's 4670/4770 sucked btw. Average overclock on those things is like 4.2ghz. Meh.

You guys on Sandy Bridge must really be getting antsy and thoroughly underwhelmed with each Intel iteration. What's it been now? 5 years?

4 years. Yeah, really itchy to upgrade but we dont have alot of choice. Hoping that Skylake will be the 'one'. :P

Intel Core i7-6700T 2.8GHz 3.6GHz 8MB 4/8 35W Why is no one talking about this!? 35W 3.6GHz 4 core 8 thread CPU!!! THIRTY-FIVE WATT!!! This is insane, blew me away when I read this. I had to read it twice. This CPU will be amazing for HTPC/Media Center/low profile gaming PC/LAN PC. I know "T" model name means low energy/high efficiency and its not unlocked like the "K" models. Still insane for a 35W desktop CPU. If pricing is right on this chip I will 100% buy one for a low profile gaming rig.... (Steam Box anyone?)
Nothing new, Intel has had 35w i7's in the past, and even a 25w Xeon 4c/8t. http://ark.intel.com/products/75053/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1230L-v3-8M-Cache-1_80-GHz I'm really missing the overclocking and tweaking fun of it all, so I'm waiting for Skylake. 😀

I don't think we will see anything worth it for the next 4 or 5 years, the usual milking increments of 5% better performance than the last gen. We have reach a point where the average users has good enough CPUs, and the CPU power demand is not increasing, at least for people that dont do encoding/editing, and without AMD equivalent putting pressure, there is no need to give us more than what they are offering atm, kinda like hibernating until something forces them to deliver. The only thing worth upgrading in the future is not based on CPU performance, but extras, like ddr4, pcie 4.0, sata express, USB 3.1, etc. Personally i think ill stick with haswell for a bit, maybe ill move to E versions in a year or two.

I will upgrade to i7 - SB or IB 😀 Couldn't care less for improved HD apu.

Well my 6 year old (my god it's really been that long) CPU is just waiting for the next CPU to come along. It's had it's time and while the leap for all of you with new CPU's may not be that great, for me personally it's looking like a mighty fine DDR4 upgrade from here.
I hear ya. Finally, after about 5 years on an e8400 core 2 duo, I upgraded to an i5 4670K (that I used for 10 months before giving to my daughter). Last year I also got my son a used i7 860 rig that actually holds up pretty well compared to my other i5/i7 rigs (4670K, 2600K and 4790K).

Yet another slightly improved Sandy Bridge.

Soo, that's it? I buy a new motherboard, new memory sticks and this new quad i5 and I get...50% loss on my old parts and 10% speed gain over them for....200-250% more money? yeaaa....
If you get hardware for a great price (like buying CPU's at MicroCenter), the loss isn't anywhere near that bad. I have a year old i5-4670k that I paid $220 for at the time and just over a year later I can sell it on ebay and easily get $200. That's what? 10% loss over a year? Right now they have a sale on the i5-4690K for $199. Outstanding price considering how it's $240 at Newegg. Or how bout $269 for a 4790k? Newegg wants $340. They also give great discounts on motherboards when purchased with a CPU. I ended up paying $320 (that includes 10% sales tax) for a 4670k and Asrock Z87 Extreme4 motherboard a year ago. If you don't live near a MicroCenter, get someone who does to pick it up for you.
