I wonder what their going to do when some of us who hit them up on the "$25 one time you fry it no questions asked replacement" decide to use that option.....maybe we'll get it replaced with a Ivy

Ivy with their heat issues are just not worth the marginal performance increase. SB is the better chip IMO if you clock to 5ghz.

Me? I am going haswell, not spending a penny on a dying socket.
Going to do the same thing here, going from a 950 @ 3,8 GHz wasn't worth the money to go SB/IB. I will be going Haswell aswell to make a big step.

This is the main reason I have not upgraded my self. I'm still on the X58 platform with my 960 D0 and its still got an almighty punch left in it. I planned on this mobo/cpu lasting me 3-4 years. But I think Haswell was held back, thought about IB but then thought, why bother. I wont be using the extra power much. All apps and games run as they should do and Ive yet to find a game that bottlenecks this CPU even with my HD7970 overclocked as well it still does not bottleneck it.

Well enjoy the wait, me i'll be playing borderlands2, farCry3, Crysis3 -my body is ready -, Hitman and GTA5 with a full gen3 system, hell i'll maybe pick up some 3Ghz ram for the occasion. Say hello to the wake -gen3 pc master race reporting in. :)
I will be playing all those games too, my the rig <<<< at full settings too with very playable fps. Your point? Wasting money on stuff that will only increase performance slightly in games (other apps like video encoding/editing etc, maybe). My friend has more or less the same system as you but he has SLI 680's and he said, going from an X58 platform to what he has now, is seriously not worth the money. The only thing he is happy with is the SLI 680's but he had those before he moved to "gen3" as you keep calling it. Even with SLI his performance only went up slightly in games compared to the x58 platform.

lol i was originally got a Z68 more than a year ago so i could get a 2500K to overclock but this tiny i3 2100 is just doing fine, haven't been gaming much these days anyway D:

Did anyone actually read the article, not sure what this early rubbish is, how is September 2013 early, it's 18 months after Ivybridge came out to replace it.
Yes good point. Furthermore, this is what Intel does with ALL their chips. Once a new gen/die shrink is out, the previous one is discontinued in the same way. What makes SB any different? It would be senseless (and costly) for them to dedicate fabs producing different chips/processes concurrently once the newer chips ramp up in production/volume.
