At this rate gamers can't complain of the lack of CPU horsepower.

If this thing is Q3 2014 then Skylake will be almost Q1 2016 in terms of availability for me .. can't wait that long :P Get over here!!! 😀

Yes! I'm definitely buying in this time. My computer really sucks now 😀

:P Im already benefiting from all Haswell stuff, its mostly by lower threaded apps, so nothing will change there.. 8threads is plenty too. I bet 8core won't OC much, max 4.5ghz. Well not with 16threads.

This will be my next CPU/RAM/MB upgrade methinks. Just been waiting for a big boost, this is probably it... will see! :hatty:

Still way to few PCIe lanes. Quad-SLI will be forced to 4x8, because 4x16 isn't possible. Now add PCIe/SATA express and you'll rather need 80 lanes, twice as much as they offer. Lame. Though a dual Xeon setup would just have those 80 lanes.

5960X will be the 8-core? Well there my chance of getting a 8-core as I stated in a previous post. :bang: Well, thankfully they will drive down the prices of the 4930k by then. And there's Broadwell too. I really wanted a 8c/16t cpu by end of 2014 but that X after the cpu means its a no go for me.. :P
Why 8 cores in particular?

How so? Multi core support is still not done correctly have the time, and alot games still use single still

Quad-channel DDR4 RAM is all I'm interested for the normal line, not "E". Keep or increase a quad qore's results with even kinda lower voltage and I'm sold.

I don't understand why people are so worried about power consumption by their desktop. Household A/C units, electric stoves, electric water heaters , etc draw more power than most desktop computers.

I think Intel and other companies are focussing on low power solutions due to emphasis on mobile technology. I agree it's not so important for most desktop users though, but probably useful for businesses & servers.

Great… the 8 core is an extreme only cpu, that's me out. Six cores just doesn't sit right with me… it's like the CPU is not sure whether to be a quad core or a octacore so it sits in middle thinking "wtf am I".
