Unless it's used with a highly paralleled program, I don't see the i7-6950X running faster than the i7-6800K.

I am tad interested in 6950X but how much faster will it be then my processor in single threaded tasks I know in something that uses several threads it would trash this one to bits. Disappointed by kaby lake having max 4 cores.

I keep thinking it's nearly time to upgrade to a 6 core but that time never seems to arrive.
Any ideas how long X99 will last? Will it support Skylake-E?

Afaik Skylake-E will get another chipset, something like 199 or similar. Broadwell-E should work with a bios update iirc.

Funny, that a gamer still doesn't need more than a Sandy Bridge quad, which is now a 5 year old cpu.

I thought there was a new chip set coming out soon 200 series?

When built my 4000$ rig, I told my friends that the only thing I'll upgrade for the next 5 years will be storage and GPU. My friends told me "ya right", Now there's talk of something more powerful than my 5960x and im already thinking of upgrading! I will resist when the time comes!

Anyone else notice the Skylake-S 4+4e replacing Broadwell on the same line? I'm assuming that means when Kaby Lake drops, Intel will also release an eDRAM Skylake chip?
