No, that's what happens when you price normal consumers out of the market. Releasing new hardware doesn't have anything to do with it.

:') I couldn't be happier.

Only means they are going to keep prices above MSRP to make up for those "losses", and the gamers are screwed again. The best possible outcome could be, you get more chances to buy hardware with still inflated prices.
This does not necessarily mean anything good for the consumer that doesn't mine, not even with new GPU releases (which will be more expansive again due to risen MSRP).

Suits them right for ripping us off..
Its still nowhere near original prices though, when 1080ti drops down to 600β¬ or lower, then we can talk again.
atm still over 800-850β¬+ for 1year old gpu, what a joke π
fantaskarsef
Sadly, I don't see the 1080TI ever reaching that level until the next TI is released, and then you want to ask yourself, "Do I still want to buy a two year old card for 600β¬?" π

Haha true, maybe you can sell me yours then π,
Austria - Slovenia is close xD

Well we know that the 1080 and the 10x0 serie in general is more than 1 year old, while still performing, who looks for new videocard is worried of getting something new around the corner and investing in an older thing. May it be a refresh or not, we expect something new to come out. ( at least me )

Higher prices are the new normal. Sure they will dip down, but not to where they were before.

Anyone that planned on getting a card has probably already gotten it by now and a quick check here in canada shows that at least the gtx 1080 is still 200$+ above msrp who wants to pay that.
Herem
I've just picked up two Sapphire AMD RX VEGA 64 Nitro+ cards from Scan for Β£670 each which is only a fraction over MSRP.
P.S. I was going to buy two GTX 1080ti but after all of the crap they're pulling with GPP it'll be a long time before I even consider buying another Nvidia card!
Jagman
@Herem - You don't need 2 of them, I'll PM you my address and you just send it π

https://i.investopedia.com/inv/tutorials/site/economics/economics3.gif So where are the new series of gpu cards going to come in at price point? Will Nvidia have a short or long memory of this lack of demand? Unfortunately we are a ways off from a new series release. I believe Nvidia will release them at the same outlandish price points as before. And the retailers will have no mercy either. And with this in the news they will probably hold off even longer to release them knowing that starving the consumer from their product will bolster the demand side of this equation. So bottom line is we the desktop user/builder are still screwed even with this news.

Every time i read about the current ridiculous prices of GPUs i canΒ΄t stop to think of how lucky i was on winning a 1080Ti...
This sucks really hard for everyone or wants/needs a new GPU. The crypto madness canΒ΄t die soon enough...
fantaskarsef
Well, say thanks to those who invented crypto mining. Any gamer living close to them should pay them a visit if the GPU prices surpass their price they're willing to pay / able to afford.
Lynching people should be more common these days.
