More attention needs to be paid to new features, like Intel's new scam, VROC. Ignoring the fact that you cannot get a VROC key at this time, even if you wanted to get one... Intel hobbles RAID on these X299 motherboards until you pony up even more cash for this "upgrade key" nonsense or stock your system with Intel-branded Optane M.2 sticks (which smacks of Intel leveraging its monopoly here) - even when you've paid a premium for the motherboard.
While I understand many here don't believe in putting nvme sticks in RAID0, Intel's promise with X299 was that it was optimized for both SSD and NVME storage, and would effectively multiply performance with no bottlenecks - i.e. 2 x 3GB/s nvme drives in RAID0 would deliver 6GB/s performance with no real increase in latency.
This is potentially big news for enthusiasts, if Intel has rushed this out and is hobbling RAID on these platforms out of greed and to push out other brands.
