Makes you wonder why they didn't just spend a little bit more time on this to make it PCIe 4.0 compatible. This is one of very few cases where a PCIe 4.0 x1 slot would come in handy; there ought to be enough bandwidth there to handle a 10Gbps Ethernet port. Obviously, they could still make this card have x4 physical lanes to accommodate previous generations.

Cards are there for long time, but problem are switches..

Yay, it is time that we see some 10Gbe cards under 100$ .Just couple more years and they will be down to 10-20$ and we can all finally move from 1Gbe,it was looong run for 1Gbe.

laptops may never get 10gbe since they are chasing the ever thinner design, kind of sad really, laptops to me are the most obvious & casual use case for this, because getting 10gbe on desktops and a local network is nothing really

Uh... I don't know about you, but almost everyone I know doesn't plug their laptop into an ethernet jack unless they have problems with wifi. It doesn't take up that much physical space to use 10Gbps ethernet, but they're not going to get these jacks any time soon because there is practically no demand for them at all. For anyone who does care, there are external adapters (like for Thunerbolt, for example). Until PCIe 4.0 is found in laptops, I don't think we'll be seeing 10Gbps ethernet, except in maybe super expensive workstations.
