The price increase doesn't add up to the performance increase. What is the intent, mining? Meanwhile, the mining sector isn't where it used to be...

Unusual move unless it is a dual gpu for 300 Euro (massively hopeful I know) at this price point. Would be a good way to off load all those extra GPU's not sold since mining decline.

Man for the price premium they're adding over the 580 you would think they could at least use gddr5x and maybe add a few shaders to make it 2560 or something that would merit the price but it doesn't make sense in it's current state(as dat as rumours go)

..When they see Nvidia raising prices by 70% for a 30% performance increase, Why are you surprised that AMD would not want a piece of that action.
Because it's a different league at this point? They need to compete in their price bracket, and now is a good change for AMD. Release a competitive product, with solid performance and low price.

As another article said, the release is supposed to be released at 15.11., which is just over 2 weeks away. What bugs me, is that there is very little official info from AMD. Usually at this point in time before release there is already official info about stuff like number of CUs, memory type and amount used etc. Also, partners usually start teasing their versions of the card. Seems like AMD doesn't really want people to know about this upcoming card.

Rebrands are often released silently. I mean whats' there to brag about? "We have mastered the 12nm one year later than our competition"

its actually not that surprising, gddr5 costs alot more than when the rx480 launched at $229 , over 30% more expensive (can add $20-30) , secondly we know from ryzen 2 that 12nm pulls more power at a given voltage compared to 14nm .12nm requires less voltage than 14nm for a given speed , but since this product is clocked 100mhz higher than a factory overclocked rx 580 and 200mhz higher than a "stock" 580, it will almost certainly pull more power , i'd guess ~15%-25% more than a 580, which means more expensive components, bigger air cooler, better mosfets ect. And for overclocking , if it can hit >1650mhz , imo it will pull an a$$load of power.

This card is to keep AMD ahead in the mid-ranged GPU market. I should be faster than the new 1060,maybe the same price range. I am interested if it is more efficient than the 580.

Didn't realize that the RX 580 went down to €230-€280. Actually thought it was still at around €350.

The naming of RX 590 does not make much sense. They should have called it RX 580X or RX 585... For that extra speed / power this looks a bit "overstressed". I would not expect it to be more than 10-15% faster then RX 580.

... or RX 680 if they follow the previous respin logic. 🙂

The price is really disappointing. I was prepared to give 250€ for it, but at $299 I think it will cost close to 325€...

Well, you could almost never find a 580 8GB for $229. Unfortunately, they always sold for $300 & up. I couldn't even find a 480 8GB for less than $265 (what I paid--for the cheapest one available) and I bought mine > a year after the 480 8GBs shipped. I agree that $250 is the sweet spot. Never, ever will I pay nVidia prices...! Just checked Amazon, and the prices for the 580 8GB have dropped--finally!--to ~$245--but the link here shows you what they were charging. Glad the robber-baron days are behind us.

1) unlike Nvidia, AMD's retail pricing allows for discounting, which will go into effect after Xmas if the mining demand is where it is today. also i expect game bundles w/the 590, which will lower the effective price. 2) this relaunch makes perfect sense in today's marketplace... no 2060 for competition yet and this will undoubtedly outperform the 1060, which was close to the 580. 3) this is a pure profit move as there is no R&D cost associated and it allows them to end their GloFlo contracts on a high note for both parties. that profit will go to make next generation product. 4) competition is good, hate is bad. it's o.k. to dislike a product or company, but not to relentlessly (and without current info) bash a company because it doesn't make what you want. AMD is selling all the cards they can make and that's good enough for me to invest in them.

AMDfan:

And the 30% better performance for only a 70% higher price on the RTX series is OK because it's NVIDIA? That is is a bit short sighted aint it?
Is this news about AMD or Nvidia? That's a bit irrelevant, ain't it?

If AMD could keep the current pricing of the 580 for this card they would have a killer product as of right now https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137118 has the 580 for 232.06$US after conversion plus tax which is actually a great price and i cant see this card costing them anymore to make over the 580. Unfortunately it looks like they're going to try selling these products along side each other and segregate them rather than phase one out.

Depends on the actual performance bump.

I'm confused, why would NEW architecture be named with OLD "5-series" title? An "RX 6-series" escaped them or something?

I think I'll just sit here and be comfortable With my 980 Overclocked @1501 megahertz air cooled haven't seen it go over 65 Celsius yet or would it 2070 be better mmm!
