You can say what you want, but for the money they ask this card just sucks. The huge wattage is also a big no, but this also is the case for the 3080. GeForce 3000s are the top performing cards at the moment. so they can't be called a fiasco, but I was hoping for a lot more… expecially on the efficiency side. They aimed for a level of performance that their current tech wasn't ready for… the completely unreasonable TDP shows just that.
Yeah i too dont like the high wattage either, im looking at the 3070 16gb version when it eventually comes πŸ™‚

my initial reaction was to laugh really loud but now I'm just sad I expected more for the price why didn't they call it Titan ? I would have expected exactly the results we have but wouldn't be sad/angry about it because "well it's a titan, not for me" well that settles it for me I'm going to wait for AMD cards and/or the 3080 20Gb I'm waiting for a waterblock version anyway so wasn't expecting to have availability in 2020 the high wattage while I get it that power doesn't come free there's a limit to what is bearable in non-aircon countries, it's one of the reason I gave up gaming on threadripper my room was constantly hot (mostly due to the trx40 motherboard/chipset to be honest, the cpu barely does anything in gaming so it's 10-20Β° colder than a 9900k while gaming)

Funny how people keep saying double the price for 10% performance. It has freakin' 24GB of VRam, which adds atleast 400 dollars to the cost. On top of that it has a way bigger cooler, which is also a 100 bucks, and add 300 bucks for the extra cores etc etc. The price is perfectly on point. Keep dreaming if you think the 3080 20GB is going to go for 700 as well.
For a non millionaire gamer with kids all those don't matter much though. This card is pretty much the GPU version of a 3950x. Very interesting option if you are a small content creator not willing to break the bank with Threadripper and Quadro but for gamers just not worth the price asked. The confusion arise from the name of the card. But lot of people from the get go said this was going to be a titan card which it is.

Hilbert Hagedoorn:

Yeah, I was wondering about that as well. But the difference is 500gr extra heatsink πŸ™‚ When you have one of the cards in each hand, you'll understand, cooling is just massively bigger.
Can i touch it for a few days hilbert ? then i send it back xD

How kind of Nvidia to take a loss for gamers everywhere πŸ™„.
Denial:

Kinda wish you called out Nvidia's bullshit marketing slides for 8K gaming. Their marketing needs to be reigned in and called out. It's borderline just making up numbers at this point. The card should have been labelled a Titan and gaming should have been taken off the table.
It would've been nice to see that but I don't know what good it would have done. Nvidia has already suckered people into liking quality degradation, making up numbers is the next step.

That argument may work for the FE but falls short regarding AIB since they use the same coolers as for the 3080 afaik.
Fediuld:

There is no SLI support after the end of the year.
I thought the deal was that nVidia no longer sends SLI profiles for games, instead it's up to the developer to include SLI support in their game.

10% more performance but 50% more cost... Not worth it. Yet the cards are still sold out lol. Bots and scalpers again?
100% more cost. It's not a gaming card prosumer sure with the 24gb ram. Titan as such

Witcher29:

Wth only 69c under full load while gaming thats impressive jezus! While non founders edition cards run quiet hotter about 75-78c weird.
As an addendum to my remark, I added a photo to the article, showing what is responsible for that extra cooling πŸ˜‰

Who would want an aib card when fe has better cooling and not power limited.

This was the card we heard a rumor, Today we see it and it's not for the consumer... This is definitely the old titan and not for the average buyer. It is a card for two categories of people: - "don't care about price/performance ratio, power efficiency is for sissies, I want the best and I don't care about the money" - like MonstroMart said a very small category of content creators and other people that need so much vram and processing power without breaking the bank with a quadro It is also a reassurance for Nvidia that AMD will not take the bragging rights of having the most powerful gaming video card by a long shot... Also I think that waiting for what AMD will bring to the table and nvidia 3070/3080 RTX 16/20GB VRAM versions is worth it BUT the 20 GB variant of 3080 will more than sure be quite expensive - in the range of 1000 USD at launch...

yes they raised the power bar, but they raised the coolers bar as well. Just Awesome cooler

Agreed. Complaining about only 10 GB on 3080(a fair point by itself) while at the same time whining that 3090 is only 10-15% faster for x2 moneys (again a fair point on its own - a fact) is kinda stopid when trying to make BOTH points at the same time. Because uhmm... yeah 3090 comes with >2x VRAM hello? On a similar note, I want to see if any of those "1080p needs 8GB VRAM" people will actually be silly enough to buy a $700 16GB 3070 next to $700 3080

Why not give option to have RTX 3090 cooler on RTX 3080 REF? I would take it.

Because this will increase the final price even more and the coolers are quite time consuming to make and 3080 cards need to be produced in larger numbers than 3090 and fast.

I imagine over time this gpu will shine when devs get their hands on it. but honestly i wouldn't be running this at stock power. Every one is obsessed with more power,, Drop the power slider down 20% and save 100watts at the wall. You wont notice in games but you might in applications.

Obvs. Looks like massive diminishing returns on steroids. What just happened.

This is the most pathetic card Ive ever seen πŸ˜€ Anyway.. I quite miss the VRAM usage at this review...
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/165/165018.jpg
yikes clearly the 3080 is the "sweet spot" especially if they make one with more memory..

Quetzall:

You guys should have increased resolution beyond 4k to see if performance scaling would increase comparing to other cards.
Based on Gamers Nexus review, it's pointless. You go up to 8K and basically every game is unplayable unless you don't actually play them at 8K and use whatever upscaler. Sometimes people should just call a spade a spade. 3090 is a spade. It's not really good at anything, it's overpriced for the vast majority of customers and definitely overpriced for what Nvidia is marketing for. It seems like it solely exists to drive Nvidia's margins up. I don't fault people for buying it - they know what they are getting for the price, all the power to them. But no one is going to sit here 4-5 years from now and look fondly on the card.
