MSI shows off GeForce GTX 980 GAMING with Twin Frozr V cooler. http://videocardz. com/52276/msi-shows-off-geforce-gtx-980-gaming-with-twin-frozr-v-cooler
Techpowerup says that's another 970 and not 980. http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/msi-teases-geforce-gtx-970-gaming-with-twinfrozr-v.205126/ Also this 970 looks kinda weak, 35gpixel, 153gtexel.. Nothing special, lower then 780. http://abload.de/thumb/57h70uz0.jpg I have no doubt 980 won't be anything special either, yeah between 780 and 780Ti at best. I dont have any regrets buying this 780 atm, but for those with older gpus yeah its a ok upgrade.

It depends on where you come from, I'd even see major gains and an ok upgrade if I'd buy a 780 with 6GB 🙂 Still I can't wait for those benchmarks, as I want to see if they will go for another Ti variant with the 980, in which case I'd get two 780 6GBs if I can get my hands on them and if their prices drop after the 980 release.

These cards are going to be ultimately faster than anything out, else its a total fail releasing cards slower than old gk110. These cards been out quite a long time. Starting feb 2013 with the titan.
Still comes down to price though too.. I could go and spend ~700 to get a TI right now, or I could get a 980GTX and overclock it and potentially get close to the same performance with lower power usage and heat for what could me quite a bit cheaper (I'm thinking 400-500) Someone in my position, looking to upgrade to current tech from an older generation could find these cards very interesting.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/90/90726.jpg
400 to 500 for a 980 doubt that very much. Looking at minimum 500 for a 980 maybe 400 for a 970 if they go with the gk104 pricing scheme. Thats a big if imo.
Well if the 980 is considered between a GTX and a TI, I would have to think that the 980 will be relatively cheaper than a TI.. I just saw NCIX selling an Asus 780ti for $650.. if that card still beats the 980, and the 980 is $500+, then why even bother? The price on the 780TI will continue to drop, so why not just get the TI? I would imagine that the pricing on the 980GTX would have to be very competitive..
@scooby its a sidegrade at best, not really an upgrade. I really don't see the point in spending good money for a gpu that underperforms the current. Its just stupid and if nvidia do that then they really don't know the meaning of evolution.
I totally hear ya with regard to the "evolution" part. However, an upgrade it could be, for some.. A 780TI is out of reach for a lot of people.. I could afford one now, but couldn't months before now.. and so someone like myself, who is in the market for a new card, could potentially get a brand new card (980gtx) for cheaper than the TI, with potentially close to the same performance (I figure when overclocked) for less money, with less heat and power consumption. To me this seems like a pretty good option.. but again, that's cause I'd be coming from a 670.. definite upgrade in my position.

Why would they bother going for a 980 at 500+ rather than a 780Ti for 650? Well besides money, heat, and power consumption, there still is a bit more vram there, 4GB rather than 3GB. Might not be that much of an upgrade for 1080p, but if one wants to reach for 1440p, it could be legit to consider it.

More of the same 30% faster than a Ti. http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/nvidia-to-launch-gtx-900-series-next-month/0138229 October release for 980. http://www.vg247.com/2014/09/11/nvidia-gtx-900-series-release-date/ Picture of 970 and its box. http://www.overclock.net/t/1512340/tpu-galaxy-geforce-gtx-970-pictured-specs-confirmed-early-benchmarks-surface/120#post_22830168 On their facebook site they say the price of the 980 is 31-34k philippine peso's which is between £435 and £475 (direct conversion) The 970 is between 19-22k peso's which is £266 and £308 (direct conversion) Maybe there will be a very big gap in performance between the two then and the 2560 cuda count for the 980 is correct. Who knows..... They also say they will be available in 2-3 weeks....
Wow I hope that's true... I'd love to jump on that train, 30% faster than the 780Ti with a bit of headroom on vram for about 550€. Still interested in going SLI with 8GB cards though, as that would be really nice overclocked and probably under water....

I m curious too , on what kind of source is based to say it s 30% faster than 780 Ti ? it would be great cos 780 Ti is a monster so 980 will be a great great monster but I doubt 🙁
Even if the 980GTX was 15% better than the TI, for $800 I would still buy it.. but that's also because I never SLI, and would like the best newest single gpu that is sub $1k (and green)

Looks like my next upgrade, given the price and specification is right. The GTX 970 looks like a decent card. Hope it delivers the performance it says for an affordable price... Looking forward to a review from Hilbert!
Take a look around Al Ain center in a few days, they often break street date :P

Atleast AMD has the decency to release such new cards in the series of their respective performance. R9 285 anyone? This is even more disgusting towards less tech savvy people who think they're jumping two generations yet they are quite very much not doing so.
They didn't want people to confuse the 8xxM cards which are the Kepler architecture with the new Maxwell architecture. How hard is it for you to figure out? What they did was IDENTICAL to what AMD did with the HD8xxx series except those were just OEM cards that were slower than the HD7xxx series which by using your logic was meant to confuse less tech savvy people into thinking those HD8xxx cards were faster than the HD7xxx cards. Speaking of decency, where was your manufactured outrage when AMD rebranded the HD7xxx series to HD8xxx series? Or rebranded some HD7xxx cards into R7 and R9 cards? And slight changes to clock speed and a software related change doesn't make it a new card. You know what they were. So next time you want to bust out the manufactured outrage, check your facts so you don't look like a hypocrite.

Anyone else ? I assume that the link did work before.

Not impressed by the 970 tbh, all that time and NVIDIA release an underpowered gpu compared to previous technology, what happened to the rules of evolution....massive meh from me.
Uh...what? in almost all cases the "#70" either barely or matches the previous "#80", those card is right in line

Aha, Dutch company MaxICT listed 970 and 980 for 423 and 640 euro respectively.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/116/116362.jpg
Prices are somewhat equivalent 780 and 780ti prices here in the Netherlands so the performance gap could be the same. Then again, MaxICT isn't the cheapest.

I expect to be extremely disappointed by the MSRP prices for these cards. It is Nvidia after all. Like Kepler before, the consumer will not see a large price/performance increase.

GTX 780 Launch MSRP = $649 (lowered to $499) GTX 770 Launch MSRP = $399 (lowered to $329) GTX 680 Launch MSRP = $500 GTX 670 Launch MSRP = $400 GTX 580 Launch MSRP = $499 GTX 570 Launch MSRP = $349 GTX 480 Launch MSRP = $499 GTX 470 Launch MSRP = $349 GTX 280 Launch MSRP = $650 (lowered to $499) GTX 260 Launch MSRP = $400 (lowered to $299) (260 was the 270 of the time) Pretty consistent with MSRPs so i'm not sure how anyone could be disappointed as anyone would be expecting a fairly tight release structure...what's there to be disappointed about when you know what prices they will be around?
