Hmm... Nvidia must be very confident that the new AMD cards will be worse than we think. And if they are, thats bad. Otherwise I think Nvidia must drop this price by $100 and drop the price of 980 too.

This the first non-Titan single GPU that costs that much. nVidia is out of their mind with those prices.

I bet the price is jacked so high because there isn't any competition right now and once AMD comes out with the new card nVidia will just drop the prices. They're just trying to make as much money as they can before AMD's card comes out.

I'm begging, praying AMD knock Nvidia into touch. The 980 TI is gonna hit scan.co.uk at around £600-625 is my guess, and that's just effing extortionate. I had the Titan X, great card, sold it soon as I heard about the Ti, was hoping to sli them, but it's getting harder and harder to justify the expense on all these toned down console ports £525 is what I'd call acceptable, but, Nvidia aren't known for that really are they

I think high end cards are getting way too pricey.

Indeed. Mostly on green side though, where are the days when flagship cards ware 500$? What nVidia is doing isnt helping PC gaming one bit.

For that kind of money I would really think twice, waay to much for such minimal boost.. If FijiXT is max 600€ then no doubt it will the better out of these two. But then again I need some proper games first, not worth it with current game scenario.

High price for now because lack of competition, price will probably go down when AMD release their cards...or not.

As expected, utter, utter **** price/performance ratio. And this is the reference model, I always go for non-reference when available and those will be even more expensive. At this rate I will be forced to get a single card again when Pascal high-end comes out whenever that will be...

Those prices... thanks AMD.

I can't see $799 happening, at that rate you may as well spend more and get a Titan X.

What! Outrageous!* *Remembers when GTX 280 released at $650.
At least that had sales. I got mine for something like $350 well before the GTX 285 was released. You'll never see a modern high end nVidia card have such a large sale (especially not when it's in its prime), it just doesn't happen anymore.

They are running into the physical limit you can fab a chip at. Titan X is 600mm2. Any larger and you run into massive edge defects. Even at 600mm2 the yields probably aren't great. 28nm is showing its age.

See how quickly the price drops when AMD's new beasty comes out...

i bought my msi 970 for $550 usd in my country (bangladesh). 980 is 900$ here. So i wonder what the 980 ti's price will be...

Well the price is a bit steep for a cut down chip , how much better or fps is this going to have over the normal 980, 5-10 maybe more in some games or maybe less for nearly double the price , we will have to wait and see the benchmarks but you all know that it will fall in the middle .

TBH I do not think nvidia 6 and 12gb cards are going to be affected by a 4gb fiji. I hope I am wrong.
Yeah I'm like of the opposite spectrum. People are thinking Nvidia are pricing these high to make more money before Fiji, which launches like a week later. I doubt it. Sounds more like the Fiji is going to be about as powerful as a 980 Ti and priced similarly. Nvidia has way more insight into how HBM and the specs of the Fiji are going to perform, then random blog people. If they wanted they could just simulate the proposed specs for fiji on their cadence system. Which would give them a rough estimate on performance. And it's not like Maxwell is capped at 980 Ti/T-X level, they could have easily clocked both cards higher, their TDP is no where near 300w level, and get some more base performance out of the thing. I still think the Fiji card will be priced at ~$800 with performance similar to Titan X levels, perhaps slightly faster in 4K benchmarks, with the exception of games that exceed 4GB of ram (Unless it does end up having 8, in which case it will be faster at 4K in all games). I think it will also be closer to a 320-330w card with possibly a 400w Uber boost or something similar to the 290x.

It almost looks like they want to keep all cards for themselves.
