Think of what IBM did for Stephen Hawking. This technology could make life much less devastating for many disabled. Just imagine being paralyzed completely - would you then be interested in this tech? I sure would.

I am intrigued about the possibilities of that device, however there might be issues. Not with the interfacing thing but with the electrodes in the brain. It might require a lot of immunosuppression medication to stop the body from trying to reject these like they do with organ implants. Let alone the smallest infection on the brain might result to permanent damage and death. We need a "wireless" method that won't require surgical operation.

Just about everything Musk has done kept affordability in mind: He made electric cars a viable option while keeping luxuries at a competitive price The Falcon rockets re-use some of their most expensive parts, while being able to carry larger payloads (making each launch much more cost-effective) Starlink is supposed to give high-speed internet to those who can't even get dial-up, again for a competitive price. Solarcity has been driving down the cost of equipping homes with solar panels. The only business he started that doesn't seem to favor affordability is the Boring Company.
Well hyperloop was pretty stupid thought ... Nice concept but the touch with reality was not there on any front .

Those saying "it'll cost too much" - I'm guessing they would offset the cost of the procedure considering how much intel they would gather on each subject to sell.

Very handy for low IQ people. ^^ One day you have 70 IQ and the next boom there you go 200+ IQ np.

Well, when for instance the US military thinks about a hive-mind..well, I don't want it. There's already conformism already as there is. But more realistically nothing technological is hack-safe, and since everything bends over to corporate will I don't want to hear damn commercials in my head. It'll come. Have an implant and get it for free if we can do X. Also Elon Musk said recently that USA can for instance occupy any country as long as they want, he's not a man to be trusted. Not that there is no use for things like this, but the world is far from a perfect place, because you know....humans.

Can this be said to be the same? If I like a page on FB for instance for a movie, it's done with my consent. But neurological chips might not ask for permission. What's to limit it? Why would it? Fantasize about committing a crime? You could be seen as a future criminal even though you haven't done a bloody thing. This can go way beyond 1984, and I'm absolutely certain that dictatorships like China will love it.

What if the first self aware AI entity is just a brain scan copy of elon musk...... that it takes over the world and enslaves the human race and turns everyone into batteries.

Essentially the idea behind the Matrix. Which is not a good idea in the first place, humans lose too much energy to be useful for that. It's far better to use say the energy from nuclear power instantly, it's much, much more efficient. The original idea behind the Martrix was different, supposedly the brain power could be used for certain tasks, uncertain to what. But if say an AI is capable of designing such a system on a huge number of biological creatures it already is smart enough to not need it. Plus, think of the latencies. It would be better to design a giant brain instead, simply write at DNA level to get a biological being that you find useful.

yeah like they don't know what to do with HEALTHY humans other than sacrificing them on the Altar of FREE MARKET all the natural resources are privatized and given to friends you will die if you can't afford the treatment BUT WAIT... if you're paralyzed you're going to get access to the internet!! I say live and let live and don't care about other peoples personal affairs, but FUKME if you should be an ambassador of human race, when you're compelled to write guides about how to pronounce your newborns name. This guy creeps me out

Got to start somewhere. The possibilities for it are kind of amazing, for example getting a paraplegic walking again, or another example would be having someone who has a arm or leg amputated able to control a mechanical one in the same way you control an actual arm or leg.
