When are Samsung going to fix the firmware issues that have plagued Samsung Magician for ages. I cannot update the firmware for both my NVME Samsung 990 pros! Come Samsung fix it!!!!!

Do you have the standard Microsoft NVMe driver installed (like you should recommended)? I was able to update the 990 Pro firmware without issues about 3-2 months ago - that would be using Magician 8.0.0 btw.

Great White Shark:

Thank you so much. Do you mean the Samsung NVME driver as I could not find the Microsoft one? https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/
No. The Samsung NVMe driver is NOT recommended by Samsung to be used with the 990 PRO SSD. The standard Microsoft NVMe driver is part of Windows and doesn't need to be downloaded. EDIT: it just lists as "Standard NVM Express Controller" in Device Manager.

Thanks. I can't see it. I think its a bios issue. When I look at the NVME Raid mode in my Asus Z790 Hero motherboard I can't select it. I might have to remove both the NVME drives and try again.

Having a 980 pro (updated firmware months ago when I got it) and a SN850X (also updated firmware when I got it) is it even worth installing this? I don't really like having software like this installed, which in my case means having 2 different ones... Kinda hate its needed for firmware updates also

I only installed it once to upgrade the firmware, then uninstalled it. Samsung doesn't provide a stant-alone firmware updater. They really want people to install their bloatware for some reason.

Samsung has been supporting standalone firmware updates for ages, afaik. Just look in the firmware section where bootable ISOs can be found.

so i installed this to check if there firmware updates for my drives and uninstalled it afterword, then notice my monitor was turning off after 15minutes and not 5 and min process performance was set to 100 instead of 5 and sleep was enabled for drives after 20minutes. mostly cause it change my power plan to high performance on windows 11, I switched it back balanced like I been using since installed win 11

Do you use BitLocker Encryption? If you do, try suspending it before applying the Firmware Update. You don't need to disable it, suspending it for the session should be sufficient. Control Panel -> BitLocker -> Expand OS-Partition and select "Suspend protection". BitLocker might block Samsung Magician from accessing the Firmware of your SSD, as well as the BIOS.

How annoying... I wish MS would start making standards more for software to not completely fing up windows all the time.

Yeah unfortunately that still happens, you can see in the prefetch folder or similar logging that it runs some powerscheduler program, was not entirely sure what it did though. Now I know, although not why they are actually changing it. You have a couple of overrides in the software itself for sleep behavior on the drives if you need to change that for whatever reason, but this just seems like an annoyance more than anything for those using Balanced or the other modes. 🙂
